🌟This National Volunteer Week, the UFBA proudly celebrates the incredible volunteers who serve and strengthen communities across Aotearoa every day 🩷
National Volunteer Week is a time for the country to acknowledge the collective energy, generosity, and commitment of the people who give their time and skills to help others. Across the country, volunteers are the heart of stronger, safer, and more connected communities.
That contribution is significant within our emergency services - especially with the 11,500 volunteer firefighters, operational support personnel, brigade support members, and their whānau who give their time, skills, and commitment to keep New Zealand communities safe and resilient - serving their communities 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
To every volunteer: thank you for answering the call, supporting your communities, and making a difference when it matters most.

Today we welcomed a visit from Scott Simpson – Minister for ACC and Suze Redmayne MP for Rangitīkei, who spent significant time seeing firsthand the incredible work our firefighters do.
They observed realistic training scenarios from start to finish - including moulage (simulated injuries), debriefing, and a time-critical rescue exercise.
Overturned vehicles, trapped patients, unstable hazards, limited time, and critical injuries - these are the situations firefighters train for, where every decision, action, and second matters.
We also took the opportunity to speak with the Minister about ACC cover for volunteer firefighters and the importance of ensuring our volunteers are supported. We have been invited into further conversations with the Minister and are looking forward to it.
A huge thank you to our firefighters for showcasing the professionalism, skill, and commitment that goes into preparing to protect their communities every day. 🚒
