The Public Service Fale, an initiative led by the Pacific Public Service Commissioners to strengthen public services across the Pacific region, have launched their Public Service Fale Webinar series.

This week’s Fale webinar led by Public Service Fale Deputy Commissioner Tania Ott, discussed “Working with Ministers and Political Neutrality”. The Commissioners heard from our Aotearoa New Zealand panel (pictured) including Fale Chair, Hon Dame Luamanuvao Winnie Laban, Public Service Commissioner, Peter Hughes (he/him), and Ministry for Pacific Peoples head, Laulu Mac Leauanae, about their experiences in the Aotearoa context.

Yesterday Te Kawa Mataaho was grateful to host Aiolupotea Sina Aiolupotea-Aiono, Deputy Chief Executive, Regional Partnerships from the Ministry for Pacific Peoples.

Sina Aiolupotea-Aiono leads the Ministry’s Regional Partnerships team, where she plays a pivotal role in how the Ministry engages with Pacific communities across Aotearoa.

She spoke to us about how the Ministry supported Pacific people in Auckland during the COVID-19 resurgence. This included engaging with church leaders, rolling out communications in nine different Pacific languages, and the distribution of 100,000 face masks to churches working with Pacific providers South Seas Healthcare, The Fono, and Global Lighthouse Mission.

Uike Lea Faka-Tonga - Tonga Language Week celebrations have started!

The theme for Tonga language week is "Fakakoloa ‘o Aotearoa ‘aki ‘a e Lotu Mo’oni" - "Enriching Aotearoa New Zealand through Prayer and Faith".

Our Pacific language weeks celebrate the richness of our diverse communities in Aotearoa. They are an opportunity for all New Zealanders to give our languages a go!

The language weeks are led by our Pacific communities in Aotearoa and supported by the Ministry for Pacific Peoples.

MPP have great language resources on their website to help you with giving it a go. You can also see how others are celebrating and learning across the country.

Great work at the State Services Commission. Congrats Tania!

This week, the State Services Commission officially welcomed its first Deputy Commissioner for the Public Service Fale, Ms Tania Ott. The ceremony commenced with a fa’alupega, greeting Ms Ott into the Fale and was attended by three Pacific Church Ministers who provided blessings for the ceremony and, representation of the sub-regions of the Pacific. The Public Service Fale will work with Pacific Public Service Commissioners across 16 Pacific countries to strengthen delivery of public services in their countries and across the region.
