Rain on Friday and a few showers over night meant that conditions were slippy for racers at the 2026 Mākara Peak South (of the) Park Enduro. And the sun came out for a beautiful afternoon at prize giving, with free sausages and coffee from sponsors Mud Cycles.
Many people noted that the second stage in the hard course (Upper Leaping Lizard into Supa Kanuka and Nikau) was tiring, with 10-12 minute times at the pointy end.
Results have been posted now. The stages are:
Hard Course (True South) - https://www.webscorer.com/race?raceid=424336
Ridgeline into Ridgeline Extension
Upper Leaping Lizard into Supa Kanuka and Nikau
Livewires
Lower Leaping Lizard
Possum Bail-out
Easier Course (South-ish) - https://www.webscorer.com/race?raceid=424337
Peak Flow
Lazy Fern

The south side of Mākara Peak is an often undiscovered gem; views out over the rugged south coast, longer trails, and more adventure. On the 14th of March we’ll be shining a light on the best trails that you should be riding more. There will be a hard course (for Wellington Enduro Series points), an easier course, and a murder mystery…

Calling all Wellingtonians! We need your help to secure one of the city’s last remaining tracts of old-growth native forest.
It’s in South Mākara and is an absolute gem. Botanists are drooling over it. Kiwi have moved in already. The 71 hectares will flourish as we put effective pest control and monitoring in place.
We’re very excited to be partnering with Ngahuru Charitable Trust to purchase the property. Together we can secure this extraordinary landscape for future generations, honouring both the natural heritage of Te Whanganui-a-Tara and the enduring connection of mana whenua to the land.
Wellington Botanical Society and several generous private donors have committed funding. We’re also incredibly grateful to our friends at The Capital Kiwi Project who’ve worked alongside us to get this far.
The vendor has accepted our offer, which is subject to finance. We have until 31 December to find pledges for the remaining $98,000.
Will you join us to safeguard this local treasure for generations to come? It’s a legacy investment in the ecological and cultural future of Wellington.
Together we can make it happen! Are you in?!
Donate now on our Givealittle page https://givealittle.co.nz/org/wellington-natural-heritage-trust #! or email us to register your pledge: [email protected]

This is Amelia Twiss. She’s home schooled, but when she wins at regional School Sports events she isn’t eligible for medals.
So she’s ridden 800km to Wellington to deliver a petition asking for a fair go.
Join us tomorrow to accompany her the past ten km to parliament. We’ll be meeting at Honiana Te Puni Reserve (on the Petone esplanade close to the motorway bridge) at 7am tomorrow morning (Tuesday 1st July).

If you were the lucky person who got Erice's neck brace, we've discovered we have a part from it that you might want.
If you were the lucky person who picked up neck brace at the celebration of her success back in October, we have just discovered that this is a part of it. Send us a message and we'll get it to you.
(Honestly, we thought it was a belt in its packaging).
