We're running the 3rd of our new moon rides tomorrow night (Wednesday 15th) on Mount Victoria. Meet at the playground at the top of Pirie street at 6:15pm. We'll likely be out riding the trails for between 90 and 120 minutes, with plenty of trail choices.

See you there!

We’ve scored a great deal on night lights thanks to our chums at

Perfect for our new moon ride series (next ride on Wednesday the 17th of June), the Knog blinder X 1800 and 2300 lights put out plenty of lumens for Wellington’s best singletrack, and we’ve got a 25% discount on both lights.

Trails closed on Tuesday… All going to plan, a helicopter will be delivering gravel to 4 Degrees, so a maintenance crew can extend the surface protection for another 700m or so! If you’re lucky enough to be planning a ride tomorrow, best go find another spot.
Many thanks to Greater Wellington for this mahi and investment in trails around the region!

Our general recommendation is to stay off trails when it’s wet. Riding trails while they’re wet churns up the trail surface, making everything muddy and accelerating erosion. But there’s one type of riding where mud is not just the point but the spirit of the event - Cyclocross (CX).

It’s a short-form lap race (between 30 and 60 minutes), with a mixture of grassy fields, small hills, gravel, and occasionally beaches or river beds. It’s fast-paced, a proper challenge, but most importantly super fun.

And Wellington has one of the best CX series in New Zealand with (mostly) Hutt Valley-based Hüttcross. The 2026 Hüttcross season starts this weekend - we’ve got more details below.

Hüttcross is one of the largest cyclocross (CX) race series in the country, with A, B and C grades, plus Mightycross for the wee kids. It’s super fun, and B and C grades are both open to any type of bike (including mountain bikes). Although of course traction is cheating 😉

In it’s 16th year, the first round of the (5 round) 2026 series is Sunday the 17th at 9:30am (course opens for practice at 9am for C grade). It’s being held at California Park in Totora Park.

It’s super fun, great for maintaining a bit of winter fitness, very social (in all grades), and costs only $30 per race (or $100 for the season membership giving you entry to all 5 races). And for the first round, if you’ve never done a CX race before, and are wondering if it’s for you (CX-curious?), drop the Hüttcross team a message at

[email protected] for a discount entry code.

More information and entries are available at the Hüttcross website. https://huttcross.co.nz

We’ve been thinking for a while that we might see if there’s interest in occasional organised club rides. So as a starter, we’re going to start a series of night rides, aligned with Wednesday closest to the new moon.

The first of our new moon rides will be in Waimapihi on the 20th of May, heading up the Rollercoaster to the wind turbine, where we’ll check out the newly upgraded Barking Emu and T16.

Meet at George Denton park (at the top of Highbury Road) at 6:15pm. You’ll need enough light for 2 hours, and some warm clothing (ideally with a windproof layer).

If you don’t have lights, there are plenty of great LED options around that don’t cost too much - if you want any suggestions feel free to email [email protected].

We hope to see you there!
