π Rongotai College Premier Cricket teams start the year with victories! π
FIRST XI
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, the 1st XI were looking to set a solid total for St Pats Town to chase. A stand-out partnership of 139 runs for the third wicket between Hunter Taylor (finished on 82) and Aston Burwell-Garratt (finished on 83) helped the team set a respectable total of 247/10 (49.1).
After both teams were treated to the famous RC Lunch, the boys went out and looked to put in the hard work in the field. Opening the bowling on debut, Toby Randall took a wicket (his first of four for the day) with his second ball in Premier cricket and his first spell of four overs going for only two runs, two wickets, and three maidens. After a bit of a comeback from the visitors in the middle of the innings, some great fielding from the boys ensured that catches were taken and run out opportunities were executed. Town were bowled out for 233 (45.3).
Congratulations to Hugo Campion, Cooper Burwell-Garratt, Toby Randall, Edward Wisnewski, and Asad Faizi for making their debuts as full-time members of the team.
SECOND XI
An upbeat and energised 2nd XI also won the toss and opted to set a target for the visiting Silverstream side. The innings was highlighted by Theo Norrisβ 82 (66) which included 14 fours. Contributions from others in the team helped the 2nds set a total of 243.
The energy remained in the second innings, with the boys having the visitors 40/4 after just 9 overs. Stream looked to push back, but the final 6 wickets fell for just 13 runs helping the seconds to a convincing 156 run win. Antony Jessett, Sam Faizi, and Virhuran Ranjankumar taking 3 wickets each for a great all-round contribution from the team.
Congratulations to Sam Faizi, Corin Leath, Kingsley McGuigan, Yugank Bakshi, and Antony Jessett for making their debuts as full-time members of the team!
