ART IS A LIFESAVER 🏄🏻🏄🏻♀️
A powerful new collaboration between artists Ellie Compton and Clint C will see art and community come together in support of Maranui Surf Lifesaving Club.
Created especially for the NZ Art Show, Art is a Lifesaver is a one-off collaborative artwork, with 100% of proceeds being donated to Maranui Surf Lifesaving Club.
The initiative celebrates not only creativity and collaboration, but also the people and organisations who work tirelessly to keep Wellington’s coastline safe.
Open to bidders from far and wide via
https://app.galabid.com/nzartshow
The work will also be exhibited at the NZ Art Show 2026, giving visitors the opportunity to experience the piece in person.

The forecast for this afternoon is looking pretty awful with strong southerlies, rain and large swells so Sunday Surf is cancelled this afternoon 15 February.
Hope everyone stays warm and dry. We'll be in touch later in the week with info on next week's session 22nd February.
Ngā mihi
The Junior Surf Team.

Sad situation on the south coast today. Please stay out of the water and off the beach.
The capital & coast carnival this weekend has been re-located to Paekakariki SLSC. Watch your email and our WhatsApp groups for updates. We will not be running Junior Surf or other training from the club while the Rahul is on place.
⚠️ SEWAGE DISCHARGE AT MOA POINT – STAY OUT OF BEACHES ON THE SOUTH COAST
UPDATE 9am
Wellington Water Staff are onsite at the impacted areas, distributing fliers and speaking with the local community. This will continue throughout the day.
Crews will be back onsite today, working to ascertain the full impact of the flooding on the plant’s equipment and operations. This assessment will take some time, and we expect that this will be an extended outage at the plant.
Keep up to date by following Wellington Water.
-----------------------------------------------------
Update 4:20pm: A rāhui has been placed from Ōwhiro Bay to Breaker Bay and will remain in place until further notice.
-----------------------------------------------------
Heads up Pōneke, there is an ongoing discharge of untreated sewage from the Moa Point Wastewater Treatment Plant due to a serious mechanical failure overnight. Wellington Water is investigating.
For your health and safety, please:
❌ Stay out of the water along the south coast
❌ Do not collect or eat shellfish from the affected area
❌ Do not take dogs to the beach during this time
