This is not a before and after. I am also not here to tell you all the things I wish I could say to the girl on the right, or that I was once unhappy with my body. This is not a short term transformation challenge.
These are 2 progress pics of many that I have on my phone. This week, after 2 weeks off my weight training and meal plan, I was feeling a little deconditioned, but my coach asked me to take some progress photos (left). The pics on the right are from January 2021- 20 months ago.
If you know me you'll know that health and living an active lifestyle is a big part of my life. In both of these photos, I am healthy and taking steps everyday towards bettering myself and my lifestyle.
These photos show a body recomposition- a clear increase in muscle mass and decreased body fat which has changed my body shape. It happened so slowly I barely noticed, in fact there is only about 3-4kg difference in body weight.
I wanted to share this in the hopes of cutting through the noise and shedding light on a few truths.
β¨The quick fix you are constantly sold does not exist. Long term, sustainable and enjoyable changes must be made over time, and fit into your current lifestyle to be maintainable. So why not slow down and enjoy the process instead of trying to rush to a non-existent finish line?
β¨The number on the scale does not tell the whole story. I'm so glad I decided to take progress photos. You may not want to sometimes, but it's worth it and will tell you so much more than your scale weight will.
β¨Living an active lifestyle and working on yourself doesn't have an end. Itβs normal to fluctuate with the seasons and experiences of life. These photos don't depict a start or an end for me, nor are they the best vs worst photos I have of myself. They are a snapshot of two moments in time where I can look back on my progress and be proud.
β¨Changing your body because you hate it is not the way. If you can learn to look at yourself and appreciate yourself in all forms, that's when the magic truly begins.
*As these pics weren't taken to be compared side by side, they show different angles, lighting and underwear. I am relaxed in both, not flexing.

When Deb started out strength training, she would only use the 20kg bar. Now here she is smashing out 2 sets of 3 at 55kg! How? Consistent, smart, specific training ππ» How good is it when hard work pays off!!

This morning I had a conversation with a client who was struggling with comparing her body to her 18-year-old self. She had been looking back at photos of how she used to be, and putting on clothes she used to wear and being so disappointed and sad that she hadn't seen much change in her clothing size. Sadly, this is the type of conversation I have with a lot of girls who are obsessing over their bodies (even though these girls are usually really fit and strong and smash their goals in the gym on a weekly basis). It makes me really upset to see so many amazing ladies that put so much of their self worth into each little curve of their body, what they look like, their clothing size, their weight, criticising themselves so much because somewhere along the way a voice got into their head that said "you are not good enough" or "not skinny enough" or "not pretty enough".
Girls, I just want to say to you that you are perfect just the way you are. Your body is beautiful, your mind is incredible and you can be and do anything you want, because you have all the potential in the world. Stop comparing yourself to others. Stop comparing yourself at all. The world doesn't need that, it has plenty of that.
The world needs more of YOU. There is only one of you, and you were born to give your own special and unique qualities to the world. So don't worry about anyone else, just be more of the beautiful, unapologetic version of you. Trust me, you are already exquisite.

MOTIVATION
The human is a fascinating creature... we find ourselves in temporary states of feeling "motivated" to do something, to make a change in our lives. In a moment of temporary clarity, where we can see our future selves and how happy we are for having made that change. But more often than not, we fall off the band wagon once that initial spark of motivation dies out.
No matter what you are trying to achieve, your reason, your "why" needs to be bigger than that initial spark of motivation. It needs to be so big and mean so much to you, that you will create a HABIT out of it to get you where you want to be. So that even on your down days, when it's the last thing you feel like doing, you get up and make it happen.
Write down your goals. Write down what they mean to you. And never give up on them, even on the days when your human brain tells you to βοΈ

If you struggle with tricep push-ups or want an exercise in-between modified and full version push-ups, this one is an awesome stepping stone to assist in activating the triceps and building the specific strength required for a full tricep push-up.
Some tips:
β‘οΈ Make sure your hands are directly under your shoulders, then wrap your elbows around to the back. This will engage your triceps and allow you to slide your elbows close to your ribs as you lower your body.
β‘οΈ Keep your core engaged- this includes your GLUTES! Squeeze them hard to maintain stability and control π (it will also make it a heck of a lot easier).
β‘οΈ Lower as slowly as you can to create fatigue in the tricep πͺπ»
