Island Bay Divers operates from premises on the corner of Reef St and The Parade, Island Bay. We commenced business in 1985 and have been running scuba diving courses and retail/ gear servicing/ cylinder testing longer than anyone else in Wellington. Our Story
Island Bay Divers opened in 1985, retailing scuba,snorkel & freedive/spearfishing equipment, scuba training, equipment servicing & testing.
In 1988 we put up the proposal to the Department of Conservation for a marine reserve in Island Bay. Twenty years later after a lot of hard work & community debate the Island Bay Taputeranga Marine Reserve became a reality.
Once the reserve was established we were asked by the Friends of Taputeranga Marine Reserve Trust to choose a site and place buoys to mark a snorkel trail within the reserve. This snorkel trail is one of three snorkel trails in New Zealand.
As well as our retail , diver training and equipment & cylinder servicing/ testing activities, Island Bay Divers also has a extensive range of hire equipment for snorkel & scuba activities. If you want a ‘no wait’ fill, we have 3 off road carparks 5 m from our compressor. Our instructor & Divemasters are Padi, Naui, SSI & Cmas.
