As we gear up for this weekends semifinals for BCC. We also reflect on a couple of weekends ago where 3 of our senior players who play for both the Antiques & the Windmuppets were selcted to play for the mighty Wellington Firehawks. They had a good tourney winning 2 from 2 only succumbing to Auckland in the final.
Baggies off to Yuong Ha for also scoring his maiden first class 50 during the campaign. Dan Brown bowled well through out & Glen Neal also pitched in with some good runs in the round robin. From all of us Brooklyn Cricket Club we congratulate you for reaching higher honours!

Darby day at Liardet match report:
great to see the Wombles & Muppets have their 1st game together... 1st of 3 across 25/26

Dave captain of the Wombles called correctly & was keen to put runs on the board. Dan was happy to chase. Runs a plenty with Rob & Andy starting in positive fashion before Stephen bowling a superb spell & nabbing Andrew caught in the inner ring. Then began some outstanding bowling by Tim who put the ball in amazing areas & grabbed 3 strong batters in a miserly spell of 3-14 off 4. Tim did his best to counteract with a handy 34 off 29 before Rikki snatching 3 of the mid to lower order with an equally tidy spell if 3-15 off his 4. Meech, Dimitris also bowling tidy spells. Handy hitting at the end w 2 big sixes from Nigel allowed Wombles to 123.

it can go either way w a lower total... especially with early wickets.... however new Muppet Tony was in a mood where he wasn't going to muck about w 47 blasted off 22 before succumbing to a lovely floated delivery by Dave. Damian, & James both w respective knocks of 24, 14* & Chris Pearman showing his power w 36* off 15. Both Tim & Hamish handy with the ball. Muppets got there at the start of the 12th over 2 down.

a beautiful day & fun had by all.

looking fwrd to the next game lads.

Preview: Brooklyn Windmuppets vs Brooklyn Wombles, 2025/26 "Puppet Derby" Match 1 of 3 (3 Match series)

Big Picture:
The new cricket season has started with a roar, with both these Div3 Brooklyn teams winning their opening matches last week comfortably. The highlight of this season for Div 3 will be the Derby matches between these two sides, with a real battle of Old vs New - the Windmuppets are the oldest and longest-serving Brooklyn team, having first played in the early 90s, while the Wombles are fresh-formed this season, albeit with some familiar Brooklyn faces. Both sides will be looking to take an early lead in this 3-match series that will be played over the course of the summer season.

In the spotlight:
The Muppets have the best spin bowling attack in the grade, with Captain Dan Wilkinson recently selected for the Wellington over 40s rep B side, and economical legspin economist Yuong Ha able to counter punch in tandem with him.
With the Muppets strangling their opposition effectively last week, it will be crucial for the Wombles to have good strategies for turning the strike over and not getting bogged down.

The Wombles bring plenty of talent and experience from other teams, and after the preseasons and last week will hope that form batsman Tim Renowden can continue his rich run of form (74* off 40) and dangerous swing bowler Ben Hunt can keep an end tied down and stop the Muppets from getting away to a flier.

Pitch and Conditions:
Liardet 3 is the largest field of our 3 home pitches, and offers some variable bounce on the slightly worn artificial. Swing bowlers always operate well there with the cross wind Northerly, and matches are often high scoring. Some early morning rain may slow the field up and force batters to attempt to hit over the top to get value for money, but weather is due to clear by breakfast leaving us with typical Wellington spring conditions.

Quotes
"Wombles n Muppets aye... pick us to be in the final in March... u heard it here!" - Dan Wilkinson, Muppets captain and Brooklyn Club Captain.

As always, Brooklyn and Cricket will be the winner on the day.
