✍🏼 Stu Widdowsøn Signs New Contract to Continue as Director of Football at Wellington College
Wellington College Football is delighted to confirm that Director of Football, Stu Widdowsøn, has signed a one-year extension to remain at the helm for the 2025 season.
Widdowsøn led an exceptional 2024 campaign, highlighted by the 1st XI’s dramatic triumph in the Trevor Rigby Cup final, defeating HIBS in a thrilling contest at Petone. This victory marked the college’s third title in four years, having previously claimed the trophy in 2021 and 2022. The success extended to our younger squads as well, with the Year 10 1st XI clinching the Junior Nationals title in Tauranga.
Off the pitch, the programme hit record-breaking numbers, with over 500 boys representing the college across various teams. Additionally, the student coaching initiative saw tremendous growth, surpassing 50 active student coaches for the first time.
2024 also marked a personal milestone for Widdowsøn, who has now coached over 200 matches for the 1st XI. Reflecting on his new deal, he said:
“I’m really happy to commit to another season with WC. It’s an amazing school with such a supportive staff and committee, which allows me to work freely on the development of our boys. 2024 was a brilliant season, with successes both on and off the pitch at every level. This is exactly what we set out to achieve when we started this journey in January. I’m looking forward to seeing what 2025 has in store and hope to see even more boys wearing the black and gold.”
For any inquiries about the 2025 season or to explore opportunities to support the Wellington College Football programme, please contact Stu Widdowsøn at [email protected]
