Super Paddy's match report

The humidity was a killer today.

Under skies so thick and grey,
The Paddies took the field that day.
Eleven men, no subs in sight,
They battled on with all their might.

The heat, it clung, the air was thick,
The Paddies' legs grew stiff and quick.
A game of sweat, a game of heart,
But Mark Avenue played their part.

The whistle blew, the ball was rolled,
The crowd was loud, the heat was bold.
The Paddies fought, they gave their all,
But Mark Avenue stood tall.

Five goals to two, the score did read,
The Paddies' hearts began to bleed.
For though they lost, they played with grace,
A valiant fight they couldn't erase.

The humidity, it took its toll,
But their spirit burned, an undying goal.
Though the match was lost, the lesson clear:
In the face of defeat, stand proud, stand near.

Match Report: Loko Diamonds vs. Super Paddy's

In an exciting clash on the pitch, Loko Diamonds triumphed over Super Paddy's with a final score of 6-1. However, the match showcased the resilience and skill of the Super Paddy's, who grew into the match more and more as it went on.

From the outset, Super Paddy's exhibited impressive control and attacking intent. Their midfield and defence, anchored by new signings Jamie and Nish, effectively challenged Loko Diamonds, creating several opportunities to find the back of the net. Jamie's composure on the ball and Nish's relentless work rate brought a spark to the team's play, keeping the opposition on their toes.

The highlight for Super Paddy's came with a brilliant headed goal from Solomon. Rising above the defence after a great set piece ball from Mike E. Despite the scoreboard, this goal underscored Super Paddy's attacking potential and determination.

Throughout the game, Super Paddy's got more and more possession and created more scoring chances. However, a combination of solid goalkeeping from Loko Diamonds and a few missed opportunities meant they couldn’t convert their pressure into a more favourable result.

The match was played in good spirits, and special thanks go to the referee for managing the game effectively, ensuring a good contest. Additionally, the support from BetterFootball giving the opportunity for the Paddy’s to conduct a post-match review and video session is much appreciated.

While the final score may suggest otherwise, Super Paddy's showed a lot of promise, especially with their new additions, and will be looking to build on this performance as the league kicks in.

Well played to Loko Diamonds

Dark clouds and a stiff northerly breeze greeted the Pelicans and Supper Paddy's at Wellington high school this morning. The Paddy's started with the breeze at their backs and made use of it early. A deft through ball from Conor in midfield set up the first goal putting Matthew through for a one on one with the keeper, He found the wood work making for an easy put back for the roving Paddy's strikers and it was 1 nil. The score remained unchanged for the remainder of the halve with the Paddy's controlling the play nicely and having the better of the running.

The second half began with the Paddy's playing into the wind. An excellent showing from the father son duo at left back and left wing proved a handful for the Pelicans. Despite the wind the Paddy's went bang bang with strikers Swanny and Sean beating the keeper from range in that order. With the score 3-0 and 30mins to play the Pelicans galvanised themselves and looked to capitalise on a tiring Paddy's side without fresh legs to come off the bench.

The tension cranked up as the Pelicans scored a brace of goals in quick succession. Scoring from a long range bullet and a strong head off a corner. This made for a nervy finish for the Paddy's or in other words it was "squeaky bum time" as the Pelicans really had the wind up their freckles searching for the late equalizer.

Full credit has to be given to the Paddy's backline, midfield and super sub keeper Mick who all kept their head on a swivel in some tricky conditions and calmly nullified any late attacking opportunities the Pelicans threw at them. The whistle blew and the match finished 3-2 in favour of the Paddy's who locked down another dubbya to keep their season ticking over!

Match report vs Mark Ave

Hungover, sick, injured, and pushing the average age of Sunday League football to the high thirties, our Super Paddy's Fun Club gathered at Wellington High School to face off against Mark Ave.

Mark Ave had a large contingent of backroom staff, whiteboards and markers displayed how they were going yo beat us. They are clearly a team of strategic geniuses, and we didn't take this lightly.

The game kicked off and though the Paddy's seemed to be dominating, there was no goal in sight. Then BOOM! A goal for the Paddy's! BOOM BOOM! Two more goals, but this time for Mark Ave. Brilliant goals in fairness that were completely unstoppable. Then just before half-time, one more BOOM from Nick Van Driel.

Half-time came and the teams were level. The Paddy's were slightly perplexed, we were all over the opposition, and yet it was level. Enter Mike Lawson. Seeing how the strategy was working for Mark Ave, Mike deployed a strategy of his own... get the ball to Seán Cooper. And by God it worked!

But not before we had a flurry of 10/10 saves from man of the match; Ronan O'Malley. Wellington's most eligible bachelor, and humblest of keepers made some truly incredible saves. He even dived the right way for a penalty.

This writer can't remember who scored all of the goals, but they're a great bunch of lads anyway.
The Paddy's defense was also immaculate as ever. With Brian, Niall, Brick, and Rodge taking no prisoners, a massive effort was put on display by them! 2 out of those 4 are leaving in a couple of weeks, if this was their last game, they should be super proud of the effort they've put into the Paddy's over the last number of years 👏

In the end Paddy's took home the win, 6-3. It could have been more, but Seán and the ref didn't see eye-to-eye on a couple of off-side calls.
Cheers to Mark Ave for a great game! We wish them well in the league! Bring on next weekend!

Super Paddys Seal Victory Against Wellington Chinese United in Thrilling Encounter

In a sun-soaked showdown at Wellington High School, the Super Paddys clashed with Wellington Chinese United in a gripping display of football prowess. The spectators were treated to a spectacle filled with twists and turns as both teams battled it out on the pitch.

The match kicked off with Wellington Chinese United taking the initiative, striking first with a well-executed goal that sent ripples of excitement through the crowd. However, the Super Paddys quickly found their rhythm and responded with a determined offensive.

It was from a corner kick, expertly delivered by Graham and skillfully finished by Michael England, that the Super Paddys drew level, much to the delight of their supporters. Notably, Sol's intuitive decision to let the ball pass through his legs played a crucial role in setting up the goal, showcasing the team's synergy and tactical acumen.

With the score tied at 1-1 going into halftime, the Super Paddys emerged from the break with renewed determination. However, Wellington Chinese United wasted no time in asserting their dominance once again, notching another goal to take the lead early in the second half.

Undeterred, the Super Paddys rallied, displaying their resilience and unwavering spirit. A clever set-piece maneuver orchestrated by Mike Lawson saw Graham finding the back of the net, drawing the game level once more. Despite the Wellington Chinese United's protests over a possible offside, the goal stood, setting the stage for a tense battle to the finish.

As the game wore on, the Super Paddys intensified their offensive onslaught, applying relentless pressure on their opponents. Their perseverance paid off when a stroke of misfortune for Wellington Chinese United resulted in an own goal, propelling the Super Paddys into the lead for the first time in the match.

Buoyed by their newfound advantage, the Super Paddys continued to push forward, hungry for more goals. Their efforts were rewarded when Kevin capitalized on a precise cross from Sol, extending the lead and securing a well-deserved victory for his team.

In the end, the final whistle blew with the scoreboard reading 4-2 in favor of the Super Paddys, capping off an exhilarating contest filled with drama and excitement. As the players celebrated their hard-fought triumph, they showcased the unity, skill, and determination that define the spirit of football.

Match report vs Fireraiders - The Paddy's marched out at Wellington high school to take on the Fireraiders. With the return of team leader Lawson recovered from a niggling calf strain the Paddy's looked to go 3 dubbya's on the bounce since slipping into div 2.

The sun poked it's way through the Wellington haze in time for kick off. This writer managed to tuck an early goal off the left boot into a largely open goal mouth and the men in red and black were underway early! Not long after Graham opened his account for the summer on return from a shoulder surgery with some good sniping work following a long range dig the keeper fumbled. It was just as well having earlier failed to convert a well won penalty.

The Fireraiders attempted to get under the skin of the Paddy's blasting a new match ball onto a neighbouring roof, however the Paddy's kept their head on a swivel and continued to win the 50/50s. Despite this the Fireraiders did get themselves on the board with a decent long range effort. Any hope of a comeback was short lived however as the Bristol express linked up nicely with the ever clinical Joe Bootland and the Paddy's went 3-1 up.

Special mention goes to Niall for some imperious airial challenges. Indeed the whole squad had a great showing in what may be a Paddy's 1st card free match of the season. All in all another good day out for the Paddy's!
