BULLER v WEST COAST
130 Years of Rivalry | Virtual Heartland Championship Clash
View at : https://youtu.be/6ZgvB_85cc8 ...

130 YEARS. 226 BATTLES. ONE GREAT RIVALRY.

Welcome to a very special Virtual Hilux Heartland Championship match-up as Francis Mining Buller takes on old rivals West Coast in a celebration of one of New Zealand provincial rugby's great traditional contests.

The rivalry stretches all the way back to 1896, with the two neighbouring unions having met 226 times through to the end of 2025.

🏉 ALL-TIME RECORD 1896–2025
Buller: 226 Played | 103 Wins | 108 Losses | 15 Draws
West Coast: 226 Played | 108 Wins | 103 Losses | 15 Draws

📊 All-Time Points:
Buller 2,712 – 2,857 West Coast

Incredibly, across 130 years of rugby the average score is just:
Buller 12.00 – 12.64 West Coast
Only 0.64 points separate these great rivals on average!

Since the beginning of the Heartland Championship in 2006, Buller have held the upper hand with 11 victories from 19 meetings, compared with West Coast's eight.

Now we're bringing the rivalry into the virtual arena.
Two unions separated by the mountains.

Two communities with generations of rugby history.
One rivalry that has survived for 130 years.
