The mighty Moa met the OBU Warriors on Saturday morning and to say the game was a battle field would be an understatement. Luna, Quincy, Ollie, Tāwharau, Meimei, Michael, Kupa, Tuia, Kaylin, Manahau, Mia and new edition Rieko showed courage, strength, skills, mana and humility. Even though the Moa were the dominant team on the day, the kids were humble in their success, i noho whakaiti i to ratou wikitoria. An incredibly special group of kids, with some monumental support from parents and whanau.

❤️🖤 Team of the week - Pōneke Kārearea ❤️🖤

Up the Kāhs! Like their namesake, the Kārearea (aka New Zealand Falcoln) are fast, fierce, and fantastic to see in flight as they grow their love of the game under the wings of the fantastic Coach Eito.

We’re a big squad, which makes for a lot of fun at Friday night practice games. Seven of the tamariki were Pōneke Vipers in 2025 and they have been joined by some returning Y2 players and kids new to rugby this year. Coming from a few different schools around the area, they’re a great group of mates as well, with huge smiles and healthy banter when they see each other.

It has been wonderful to see their development as a group. They absolutely love scoring tries and making rips and are all keen to give it a go. Their ability to read a game is growing, while sidesteps, backing up, and passing are all things they want to do more of. We also have a great whānau group on the sideline and ready to help out with training, with a few younger siblings who are keen to get stuck in too.
