Congratulations to the Redsox and Angels who played in the U15 Manawatu Twilight Tournament on Feb 28/Mar 1. It was great to see two teams from our association playing that weekend.
The Redsox came away as the winners of the tournament, in both the Boys Division and against the top Mixed team as well. 5 games in total played by 11 gutsy softballers (and one unlucky injured player), over 24 hours. Solid defense, impressive batting and base running sealed the deal for these up and comers.
Congratulations to Taenga Durie, James Tuffin, Ethan Darlington, Jordan Hollis, Tamawhakaio Patea, Carter Fyfe, Ari Hetherington, Marius Marino-Delves, Caleb Tuffin, Leo Fyfe, Cleeve O’Connor, and Luke Darlington. U15 Regional Tournament Winners!
The Angels were entered in the mixed grade, being the only girls team in the competition.
Their first game was against Hutt Valley Marist, finishing in a 5–5 draw. The second game was another close one, going down in the last innings to Johnsonville boys and the third game was against Huia, where the Angels just went down again in another tight match.
Angels ended up playing for 4th and 5th against Island Bay, finishing the tournament in 5th place. As the only girls team was a pretty good achievement!
It was a great experience for the girls, and we are very proud of them.
Congratulations to Raama Gilsenan (Captain) ,Angel Landon-Lane, Memory-Charlotte Madams, Tiana Barratt, Kaihau Hunapo, Lusharnia-Hope Marino-Delves, Charlotte Hamilton, Jasmine Lawton, Charlotte Steele, Verti Lebo
Thank you to Manawatū Softball for hosting a great weekend of youth softball and a big thank you from the WSA to everyone who made this happen for our up-and-coming ballers!

ISA U13 Rookie Sox 2026 was represented well from our Whanganui region. Showcasing our U13 Boys, U13 Boys Development and U13 Girls over three days in Manawatū.
Great to see our 37 junior players on the diamonds, experiencing the great calibre of softball at the Rookie Sox tournament.
Congratulations to our Boys team, placed in the top four of the A section. Narrowly missing out getting to the finals. They showed some top class softball over the days placing 1st in their section to get to play in the semi-finals. A big congratulations to coach Stephen Kuni, named coach of the tournament team. A great recognition and congratulations to Tamawhakaio Maru-Patea and Carter Fyfe, named in the Tournament Team. Congratulations to Jordan Hollis named in the Tournament Rest Team.
The Girls team showed resilience over the days and managed a good win over North Harbour. Congratulations to Lulu Marino-Delves and Nike Tutaki being named in the Tournament Rest Team.
The Boys Development team were at the tournament to experience the awesome level of softball on offer and had two wins against the Hawkes Bay Mixed team. Congratulations to Liem Seilala and Manager Lance Brown named in the Tournament Rest Team.
Whanganui Softball would like to acknowledge, give recognition and thanks to the management crew of the three teams, for giving the opportunity for the kids to be able to play, experience good softball and prepare them for up and coming future softball. 💙🥎❤️

Our Whanganui U15 Girls team headed to North Harbour for the Northern Regional Tournament, held this weekend.
They placed 6th, narrowly losing the finals in the plate section. They played some big province teams and came away with one win from five games, over two days.
The girls played in good spirit and represented Whanganui with pride.
Congratulations to Raama Gilsenan on her selection in the tournament team.
