And that's a wrap.
Senior Nationals 2023 has come to a close and what a tournament it was.
Our Premier side walked away with a hard fought bronze medal after falling to defending champions Capital Penguins Inline Hockey Club 7-3 in the Semi Final.
Lightning was able to secure 3rd place with a 7-4 win against Northland Stingrays Inline Hockey and walk away with a medal. Not the sort of finish our team was looking for, however it is always a great feeling finishing a tournament with a win.
A big congratulations to Mt Wellington Panthers, who took out gold in the premier grade in what was one of the best games we have watched in a very long time.
The vibes in the stadium were absolutely electric!
To Andrew Tripe - Mayor of Whanganui - Thank you for joining us for our ceremonial puck drop. We hope we have added another supporter to both our local club and our sport in general.
Thank you to Inline Hockey New Zealand for giving our club the opportunity to host the most important tournament on the NZ Inline Hockey Calendar.
We also wanted to take the time to thank and congratulate everyone, from players, teams and clubs, through to coaches, managers, team officials and supporters for taking the time to come to our little corner of the country and hope you all enjoyed everything that Whanganui had to offer - both on and off the rink!
Special mention to all of the volunteers who made this possible. From Referees, to Score bench and Penalty box officials, our stream commentators, to everyone who helped with our canteen, and cleaners. We were overwhelmed with offers of help from different individuals and clubs - and it's moments like that where we realize how special and tight knit our amazing inline community is.
Lastly, a big shout out to Wanganui Lightning United Inline Hockey Club President
James O'Donnell and (First Lady?) Nadine for the countless hours and late nights spent meticulously planning every action point down to the last detail. James litterally put his back out by putting the club on his shoulders (excuse the pun).
Hoping we can build on what was a successful 2023 season!
Thanks to support from New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT) , Whanganui & Partners , Harrisons Hiremaster , Splash Centre Whanganui and Sport Whanganui for providing funding, activities and general support across our 9 days of Hockey.
Until next time..

Tough day today for our Premier side, opening the day with a 7-6 loss against the Northland Stingrays Inline Hockey with what looked to be a thrilling come back.
The second game of the day resulted in a 7-3 loss against the Mount Wellington Panthers. The team put in a big effort however fell short in what was a very intense game played at a high level.
Tomorrow is another day and we turn our focus to defending champions Capital Penguins Inline Hockey Club where the team will be hungry to get back into the win column. The game will be played at 12pm sharp.
Our last round robin game will be played at 7.40pm against Waihi Miners Inline Hockey. Both of these teams will be wanting to end their Round Robin on a strong note with a big 2 points and in the win column. Makes for exciting hockey.
