1950s - Here is a large photo of the old Kainantu Golf Course Club House along with the second one built in the mid 1990s. This original Club House was located beside the green on the old hole # 9/18, which was the new hole # 7/14. Sadly, I think this club house was burnt down sometime in the early 1980s.

Around old hole # 9/18 was a metal post with a metal bucket welded to the top of it with a lock and small slot in the top where golfers deposited their golfing fees when they played.

We'd love to know if this metal post and bucket are still there. If so, we'd love to see a photo. If anyone has other photos of the course, we'd love to see them.

The Kainantu Cross of Remembrance, that stands on the grounds of the Kainantu Golf Club, to proudly remind all of the sacrifice by World War II soldiers to keep Papua New Guinea free is in need of cleanup. It was dedicated on August 23, 1966, but has fallen into a sad state.

Who will rise to the occasion and organize a work crew to clean the area and restore it to the fitting memorial at the golf club as it is meant to be?

The Kainantu Golf Club A history of the Kainantu Golf Club, its operations and new efforts to revive the club and course and return it to its former glory!

What will it take to restore the Kainantu Golf Club and Course to its former glory and make it even greater?

It will require a combination of corporate sponsors, local government leaders and local citizens to work together to bring this course back to life. It could be a wonderful respite and meeting place for locals, business people and tourists.

The potential for tourism is great, especially with tourists from Australia, with the Cultural Centre, the Kainantu Hotel, the Cross of Remembrance located on the golf club property and the memorial to Father John Glover (A Roman Catholic priest who helped preserve many lives in Kainantu during World War II). These could be major drawing cards for the area and also bring in much needed tax revenue.

A Papua New Guinean visionary is needed on the ground to spearhead this effort. Who will rise to the occasion?

The memorial to Father Glover was accidentally demolished a few years ago, but could be rebuilt. Information about that memorial is available from the author of the book on the Kainantu Golf Club.
