SOBOU Football club was established in 1973. SO stands for Solomon and BOU stands for Bouganville. I SOBOU Football Club is a soccer club established in 1973.
It is now a national team in Lae that plays in LAHI Soccer Association and PNG. The club was established by students from Solomon Islands, Bouganville and other Pacific Island and PNG, studying at PNG University of Technology in 1973. There was only one team on campus and many students missed out so SOBOU was created to accommodate these players. It was also to encourage more interaction between P
NG and other pacific Island students. The student membership in the club later welcome other participants, opening up the pathway for staff dependents and youths from neighboring settlements to become part of the venture. The club has such a colourful history which includes Premiership in 1989, 1984, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2002, and 2004. SOBOU settled for runners-up flags in 1999, 2001, 2003. On the national level, SOBOU reached the echelon of PNG soccer-wrapping up the championship title in five straight years from 2001 to 2005. The 2004 win earn the club right to represent the country in a two -match Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) club championship qualifier in LAE and qualify for second leg in Tahiti. SOBOU yet again win the fith national club championship in 2005 and qualify for OFC club in Auckland, New Zealand second year in a row. Over the years SOBOU has produced some of the most talented national players and strive to develop young aspirants to reach similar standards. The National players produced was Richard Daniel (AM) and PNG national team captain , David Aua (GK), Francis Moyap (S), John Laskam (RF), Harrison Kamake (CD), Runa Geasa (GK) Zaccheus Kawambara (RD), Alu Kamake (LD), Andrew Kasam (S), Harold Kawambara (S), Billy Namuesh (RF), Ludwik Tienmua (S), Joel Konofilia (DM), Sovera Guti (AM). SOBOU will continue to dominate and excel in the spirit of soccer during domestic matches, SOBOU was rated as one of the best in PNG soccer.
