Celebrating Diversity, Inspiring Inclusion

Last Friday, 16 October, the Inclusive GymBad joined Moresby Arts Theatre for an Open Inclusive Theatre Event with Students from, Cheshire, Callan IERC, visitors from the Education Department and other PWD partner groups.

Our coaches, volunteers and Para Athletes facilitated inclusive GymBad sessions, creating opportunities for participants of different abilities to engage, connect and enjoy the power of sport.

The session also featured Emma Reid from Brisbane, a special education teacher and inclusive drama practitioner who specialises in accessible, music led creative activities for children and young people with intellectual and multiple disabilities.

The event concluded with a short film screening, bringing everyone together to reflect on the power of creativity, inclusion and shared experiences.

It was a wonderful opportunity to promote inclusion, build confidence and celebrate abilities and talents of people with disabilities through arts, film, music and sports.

Six partners came together to commemorate International Safe Sport Day, united under the theme "Safeguarding should protect every child involved in sport" and the call to action: "Stand up. Speak out. Play your part."
The event featured a basic safeguarding session delivered by Netball PNG One Netball program, followed by five interactive activity stations lead by Inclusive GymBad - PNG, PNGFA - Just Play, AFL Papua New Guinea Pilai Lon senis, NRL in PNG - League Bilong Laif and Hook in4 Health PNG, where participants learned key Safe Sport messages through fun and engaging activities. Participants also took part in an interactive reflection session, with representatives from each station sharing what they had learned and their understanding of what Safe Sport means. Their feedback highlighted the importance of creating sporting environments where every child feels safe, respected, and protected.

We thank the staff from Australian High Commission Papua New Guinea and Team Up for joining us. These programs are supported by the Australian Government through the TU Program as we continue to promote safe and inclusive sport for every child.

What would you do to get to training?

For Regina Edward, it meant swimming across floodwaters to reach the nearest transport.

Now, 16 years after her Commonwealth Games debut, the PNG para-athlete is back on the international stage, proving that resilience, courage and hard work can take you anywhere.
