OFFICIAL MEN’S LADDER UPDATE

The men’s ladders are now checked and confirmed after 20 weeks of rugby.
We acknowledge the earlier posting errors and thank the clubs, officials, players and supporters who helped us correct the record.

This is the official men’s ladder update.

Two rounds remain in the season proper.

In Premier Grade, Valley Hunters remain on top with 57 points.
MBB Marlins move into second on 52, ahead of Brothers on points difference.
Brothers are also on 52.
Harlequins hold fourth on 44.

That means the Premier Grade Top 4 is taking shape, but there is still pressure below the line with two rounds to play.
Wanderers sit fifth on 35, Nova sixth on 30, with Crusaders, University and Juggernauts still fighting to finish the season strongly.

In A Grade, Harlequins are clear on 74.
Defence sit second on 58.
Juggernauts are third on 53.
Valley Hunters hold fourth on 51, with Kone Sharks also on 51.
MBB Marlins are on 49 and University are on 47.

That Top 4 race is still dangerous.

In U23 Boys, Brothers lead on 67.
MBB Marlins sit second on 65.
Wanderers are third on 64.
Defence hold fourth on 53.

Three points separate the top three.

In U20 Boys, Wanderers lead on 68.

Kone Sharks sit second on 60.

Harlequins and Defence are both on 55, with Harlequins ahead on points difference.

Valley Hunters are still within reach on 48.

After 20 weeks, the ladder is tight where it matters.

MEN’S RESULTS UPDATE

The same way CRU works to get official competition information out to the rugby community, the rugby community also helps us keep that information clear, correct and accountable.

The results below have now been rechecked against the official ladder calculator.

This update covers the men’s divisions only.

Women’s results will be posted separately.

Round 19 and Match Week 20 are now confirmed.

In Premier Grade, MBB Marlins made a big move with a 22-12 win over Brothers.

Valley Hunters stayed top with a 15-7 result over Wanderers.

Harlequins edged Nova 25-19, while University got past Juggernauts 22-13.

In A Grade, Harlequins stayed clear with wins across the week. Kone Sharks picked up two important results, Defence were strong against Wanderers, Nova beat Brothers, and Valley Hunters got past MBB Marlins.

The A Grade Top 4 race is still alive with two rounds left.

U23 Boys has tightened at the top. Brothers, MBB Marlins and Wanderers are all separated by just three points after 20 weeks of rugby.

In U20 Boys, Wanderers remain in front, but Kone Sharks, Harlequins and Defence are still pushing hard behind them.

Collin Moala has taken a major step in his young rugby career after making his international debut with the Asia Pacific Lions in Sri Lanka.

For the young Valley Hunters Rugby Club forward, pulling on the Asia Pacific Lions jersey and stepping onto an international field was an opportunity he will remember for the rest of his career.

Moala, who has been one of Valley Hunters’ standout performers over the past two seasons, earned his opportunity after catching the attention of former Australia Wallabies star William Genia during Genia’s visits to Port Moresby.

Genia has been supporting the development of rugby in PNG, including work with Valley Hunters and the wider rugby community.

Moala’s strong performances at prop helped put him on Genia’s radar and ultimately opened the door to an opportunity to train and play alongside established international players.

With PNG currently restricted from international representation following its suspension by Oceania Rugby, opportunities such as this are particularly important for local players looking to gain valuable exposure beyond the domestic game.

For Valley Hunters, Moala’s selection is also a significant milestone.

The young prop has become the club’s first player to earn an overseas opportunity of this kind, providing an important moment of pride for the club and its growing rugby programme.

Speaking on the club’s page, Moala admitted he was nervous when he first joined the Lions but quickly settled into the environment.

“At first I was nervous, but I blended in well with the senior players, giving me a lot of confidence,” Moala said.

Moala travelled to Sri Lanka with Genia as part of the inaugural Asia Pacific Lions group, where he had the chance to train, play and learn alongside players with extensive international experience.

The Lions group is being led by Australian rugby great and World Rugby Hall of Famer David Campese, while the playing group includes former Fiji captain Waisea Nayacalevu and Fijian international Teti Tela.

Moala also found himself sharing the rugby environment with England internationals including Henry Po***ck, Fin Smith, Alex Mitchell and Tommy Freeman.

For a player coming through the PNG domestic system, the experience offered a rare opportunity to see first hand the standards, intensity and professionalism required at the highest levels of the game.

More importantly, it gave Moala a chance to learn from players who have already established themselves on the international stage.

His debut also carried a personal significance, with Moala sharing the experience with Genia, the former Wallaby whose involvement in PNG rugby helped create the pathway that brought the young prop to Sri Lanka.

For Moala, the journey is only beginning.

His appearance in Sri Lanka represents a major milestone in his developing career, while for Valley Hunters it is a proud achievement that could inspire more young players to believe that opportunities beyond PNG are within reach.

We’re proud to see you selected for the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) – Sports Management and Youth Leadership in the United States.

This exciting program brings together participants to explore American excellence in sports management and youth development. Participants will learn how U.S. schools and communities integrate flag football and other sports into education, promote athlete health and safety, and develop strong, sustainable sports programs that create academic, social, and economic opportunities for youth.

Throughout the program, participants will visit Olympic training centers, educational institutions, youth sports organizations, professional leagues, and community programs to discuss best practices in coaching, curriculum development, injury prevention, drug‑free leadership, and league management. They will also build valuable networks with U.S. counterparts as preparations continue for the LA2028 Olympics and Flag Football’s historic debut.

We wish Urith, Steven, and Jonah every success as they represent Papua New Guinea on this exciting journey!
