🏉 TEAM SPOTLIGHT: THE PORT MORESBY FISSPOTTS 🏉
Introducing Port Moresby Fisspotts—one of the teams set to compete at the Manila 10s 2025! 🔥 Read below what they have to say about their team.

The Port Moresby FissPotts embark again on another pilgrimage to Manila in 2025, to participate for the second time in the 2025 Manila 10s tournament, to be held at Alabang Country Club. The FissPotts hope to etch their own legacy and history in the folklore of the game they play in heaven.
As always, we are forever grateful to the Manila 10s organizers for giving us such an honor.
The FissPotts are based out of Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea and we are a social/charity rugby club made up of former rugby tragics and supporters. Established in 2012, we mainly raise funds using “rugby” as a conduit and donate to various charities back home. We are also a regular participant in the Pot Bellied Pigs Fat Boy 10s in Clark, Angeles City since 2015 to 2024.
The FissPotts will be coming off another successful hosting of their own charity rugby tournament called the FissPotts Charity Rugby 10s, in 2024 and the recent Pot Bellied Pigs Fat Boy 10s in Clark Air Force Base, Pampanga in September 2024.
President of the FissPotts, Jack Kariko has stated, “Given this is our second time participating in the Manila 10s tournament, the fellas are now, what should we call them – veterans of playing social (charity) rugby so we are very much looking forward to coming away with a win in the finals of the veteran’s division. We have recruited well and have a sort of balanced team in some young new faces as well as the older Fat Boys 10s seasoned veterans which bodes well for a positive outcome at the tournament”.

BOWL WINNERS! 🏆

This year, the Port Moresby Fisspotts touring team to the Pot Bellied Pigs RFC Hong Kong Fatboy 10’s 2024 rugby festival at Clark Airbase, Philippines, returned as Bowl winners, yet another prize for the trophy cabinet back home.

Captained by Malcolm Kulu, there were 12 Fisspotts in total and they were assisted by another 5 more players from the host team, the Hong Kong Pot Bellied Pigs, who themselves also sought assistance from the Fisspotts as they could not muster enough numbers to field a team on the day.

Together, the combined team had to play double the number of pool games as the other teams did (twice, back to back), as all players played for both the Fisspotts as well as the Pigs. This did not deter the boys as they battled onwards with determination, and in the words of the MC’s on the day “brought back island-style rugby”.

While the team set off on a shaky start, like well-oiled machinery all it took was a little push to get the pistons pumping and then there was no stopping the men in pink. Before, during and after the game words of encouragement from Captain Samurai (as nicknamed by the Japanese players that joined them) kept the fire burning bright, and through sheer will and effort the boys reached and won the Bowl finals.

After a 4-year hiatus from touring, the Fisspotts made their presence known with a resounding bang, and brought home the goods.

Today the Port Moresby Fiss-Potts Rugby Club reaffirmed its commitment to causes that provide value to communities, families, and individuals, by donating to the Papua New Guinea Children’s Foundation (PNGCF), represented by their President Mr. Yiannis Nicolaou.

The club values the work that PNGCF does in providing a safe space for disadvantaged children to find solace, and to be assisted in their learning needs as well.

This is one of the various causes the club has supported this year in total to the aggregate of K40,000.

These funds are primarily raised through the Fiss-Potts various fundraising activities, which include the annual Charity Golf Challenge, as well as the annual Charity Rugby 10s Challenge. These events provide the platform for our members, as well as the business community to come together to enjoy sport, whilst at the same time provide the avenue to supporting worthy initiatives.
