It is with a heavy heart I share the news that Toogee Martial Arts Pioneer PNG Instructor Paul Muriki has passed away.
Instructor Paul was one of the first Toogee Black Belt Instructors promoted in 2004. He was promoted again to 2nd Dan Senior Instructor in 2006 and operated several very successful Dojangs in Port Moresby over the next 10 years.
Instructor Paul suffered a lifetime debilitating medical condition but he didn't let this stop him from doing what he loved, training and teaching Taekwondo. Instructor Paul led his classes by example, he was a strong man with excellent technique and this reflected in the quality of the students who trained with him.
In class he was as tuff as nails but away from training he was a softly spoken gentleman, always most respectful and courteous, Paul had all the qualities that make a great Martial Artist, I will miss our conversations. My heartfelt condolences to Paul's wife Jill and to Paul's family. Farewell Sabumnim Paul.

This past weekend Sabum Liawe Michael attended a special invitation only training camp on the Sunshine Coast Queensland with Pioneer Grand Master Kong Young Il from the USA, also in attendance were four Grand Masters, four Masters and around 30 Instructors and Black Belts. At the Black Tie Formal Banquet awards evening celebrating 70 years of Taekwondo, Instructor Liawe was presented with the Gen. Choi Legacy Star Medal for his dedication and contribution to the art of Taekwon-Do.

Congratulations Instructor Liawe Michael, promoted 4th Dan Instructor at the 43rd annual Black Belt International Instuructor Course and Dan Grading. Held at Riverwood Downs, Monkerai NSW Australia 17th, 18th & 19th October 2025
