𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐀𝐁𝐈𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐘 𝐈𝐒 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐀 𝐏𝐔𝐍𝐂𝐇𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐄!
As Josh’s uncle, I am deeply disappointed by the remarks made about him on Machong Chismisan. As National President of Autism Society Philippines, I am equally concerned by how persons with autism continue to be ridiculed under the guise of comedy.
Josh’s autism is not a punchline. No person with disability deserves to be humiliated for entertainment, regardless of their family background or personal circumstances.
Podcasts and digital platforms have the power to shape public attitudes. They should be used to promote awareness, understanding, and acceptance, not perpetuate prejudice and discrimination. Freedom of expression comes with responsibility, and calling something a joke does not automatically excuse conduct that violates the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities.
To Josh, and to every person with autism and every family who has experienced the pain of being misunderstood or ridiculed: you deserve better. You deserve a society that recognizes your humanity, acknowledges your abilities, respects your individuality, and protects your dignity.
Let us build a culture where no one is humiliated simply for being different. Disability inclusion is not a matter of sympathy; it is a matter of rights, dignity, and respect. Dignity is not negotiable, and inclusion must be reflected not only in our words but also in how we treat one another.
Josh is the eldest son of my cousin, Kris Aquino, and I stand by him and every person with autism in the call for a society that treats everyone with dignity and respect.
