Grassroots sports development in Bacolod City! 🧡
Today at the MICES Gym, 30 young Bacolodnon girls laced up to train directly with the Gilas Pilipinas U18 Women’s Team. Through a powerhouse partnership between the city and the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), elite, national-level standards were brought straight to our local hardwood.
Running drills alongside the country's top athletes changes the game entirely. Our young hoopers absorbed the exact plays, intense discipline, and winning mindset required to dominate. Getting this close to the action gives them a realistic, hands-on look at exactly what it takes to represent Bacolod—and eventually the nation—on the biggest stages.
This level of exclusive access perfectly captures Mayor G’s approach to sports development, aggressively closing the gap between local talent and national mentors. By consistently driving high-caliber grassroots programs like this, Mayor G is actively building a local culture of excellence, ensuring our homegrown athletes are always equipped and primed for the top. 🧡

Mayor G leads turnover of 222 Smart TVs for Bacolod public schools! 🧡
Ahead of the upcoming school year, the City Government has turned over 222 Smart TVs to Bacolod’s public schools. This technological upgrade directly complements the city's distribution of free school bags and learning supplies, ensuring classrooms and students are fully equipped long before day one.
For Mayor G, this comprehensive approach is about lifting a heavy financial weight off parents and families. He believes that quality learning should never be a burden, ensuring that Bacolodnon parents do not have to spend their hard-earned money out-of-pocket just to give their children a competitive education.
As a proud product of a public university and a champion of education since his days as city councilor, Mayor G advocates that a fully supported, cost-free public education is the best and surest way to empower our children to achieve their dreams and become whoever they aspire to be.

The global spotlight is officially turning toward the City of Smiles! 🧡
From June 2 to 6, the STI-West Negros University Gym has become the center of Southeast Asian youth basketball. Bringing a tournament of this scale to local courts was a deliberate move under Mayor G’s administration to explore the practical benefits of sports tourism. By welcoming elite youth teams from the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, the City of Smiles is steadily earning its place as a capable host for international sports.
The arrival of international athletes, coaches, and delegates translates into immediate, tangible activity for Bacolod’s hotels, transport sectors, and local dining, turning a sporting event into a reliable driver for the local economy.
Beyond the immediate economic lift, the qualifiers serve as a testing ground for a longer-term vision. Ensuring tight protocols and preparing facilities to meet exacting FIBA standards demonstrates that the city is laying the groundwork to become a regular destination for major athletic events and elite sports training.
The city's seamless ex*****on has already drawn high praise from both FIBA and the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP). Through Mayor G's thrust for sports tourism, Bacolod is building the infrastructure, logistical capability, and reputation necessary to become a trusted, world-class destination for the global sports community. 🧡
