When I think of dance, I think of freedom. A release. I feel like art, with my body as my canvas. Once the music plays, my thoughts disappear and my body takes over, moving with every beat as it tells a story. Maybe I'm a Prince, or a Knight, or the Hero! Dance allows me to let loose and be one with the music, even for just an eight-count measure.

Despite all of the hardship brought by the pandemic, dance has become my way to stay grounded. Every step, jump, and turn is a reason for me to keep pulling through. If there's anything dance has taught me, it's this: even if everything falls apart, smile, keep your chin up and your stance strong. The show will go on.

Do two worlds even exist? I have those, first, a STEM student, the only daughter of Joan and Darwin Buenaagua. And second, a student in advanced class ballet.

My thoughts in doing ballet before was only for “ pampalipas oras “, until two teacher came and changed my mindset on ballet, Teacher Patricia Melissa and Teacher Fritz Dereje, they made realize that doing ballet is not for “ pampalipas oras “, doing ballet is like dreaming to become a princess when we were little. Ballet helped me in all situations, whether it’s stress, sadness, depression and even surpassing anxiety.

As years went by, I was slowly improving, but was not moving forward. When Teacher Fritz came and began handling us, I am grateful and thankful, not only that he was teaching us, but also, setting his full attention on us dancers, I am slowly improving but this time I am moving forward. Ballet takes me to a whole new world, ballet became my reality, ballet made me who i am today.
