The University of Santo Tomas Junior High School (UST JHS) and the Lyceum of Aparri marked the start of their three-year community partnership on June 25 through Dunong Tomas: Lakbay Norte (BINHI), the first community development initiative under the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two institutions. The activity brought together basic education and college faculty members, along with students of the Lyceum of Aparri, for a day of teacher-training seminars and livelihood education programs.

The morning program focused on classroom innovation and environmental sustainability. UST JHS EdTech Specialist Mr. Allen Joel Lora led the seminar “AI-Assisted Teaching and Learning: Educational Tools of the 21st Century,” in which participants explored practical ways to integrate AI tools into teaching and learning. At the same time, Engr. Eric Edgardo Raymundo, CE, President of the Bayanihan para sa Kalikasan Movement, together with Mr. Guillermo Baldonado Jr. and Mrs. Rachel Baldonado, facilitated a hands-on Eco-Brick Making workshop for participants in the livelihood track.

The program continued in the afternoon with parallel discussions under New Pedagogies and Paradigms in Secondary Education. Teachers participated in discipline-specific sessions on critical and social media literacy in English education, game-based learning in Science, the use of Genially and generative AI in Mathematics instruction, and theater-based pedagogy in Filipino. A concurrent livelihood session on Achieving Net-Zero Emissions through Circular Economy introduced participants to sustainable practices that communities can adopt to reduce environmental impact.

Leading the UST JHS delegation was Mr. Jullienne Bennille Enano, UST JHS SIMBAHAYAN Community Development Coordinator, together with Mr. Caesar Anthony Yoma, Mr. Karlo Jay Perez, Mr. Allen Joel Lora, Ms. Christine Joy Parpan, Mr. James Euric A. Llamado, Ms. Kimberly Tayaua, Mr. Mark Robin Dacio, Mr. Angelo Butardo, and Ms. Larlee Dela Cruz, who served as facilitators and resource speakers throughout the program.

The activity forms part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by Rev. Fr. Joel M. Reyes, President of the Lyceum of Aparri, and the UST JHS through its SIMBAHAYAN Community Development Office. Under the agreement, the two institutions will work together on teacher training programs, community engagement initiatives, and other educational development activities over the next three academic years, from 2026 to 2029.

Sa matagumpay na pagsasama-sama, isinagawa ang Kamanlalakbay 23: Annual Leaders’ Formation and General Assembly 2026 sa pangunguna ng UST SIMBAHAYAN Community Development Office, Office of the Vice Rector for Religious Affairs, National Service Training Program (CWTS/LTS), at Samahang Kamanlalakbay noong Hulyo 2–4, 2026 sa UST Central Seminary Gym.

Dinaluhan ito ng mga katuwang na pamayanan at institusyon, SIMBAHAYAN Community Development Coordinators, NSTP Facilitators (CWTS at LTS), mga kinatawan mula sa Office of the Vice Rector for Religious Affairs Cluster, at ilang mag-aaral, na nagbigay-daan sa isang makabuluhan at mayamang sama-aralan, pagsubaybay, pagtatasa, at pagpaplano para sa patuloy na pagpapaunlad ng pamayanan.

Pinangunahan din ni Reb. P. Christian “Fr. Toots” Buenafe, O. Carm., PhD ang pagbabahagi ng mas malalim na pag-unawa sa temang “Sangandaan para sa Kapayapaan at Kalikasan: Iba’t Ibang Ruta na Nagpapanagpo Tungo sa Maalwang Lipunan,” na nagsilbing gabay sa pagninilay at pag-uugnay ng mga karanasan ng mga kalahok.

Nagkaroon din ng makabuluhang palitan ng kaalaman sa pamamagitan ng presentasyon ng ilang alumni at mag-aaral mula sa Fakultad ng mga Sining at Panitik at Fakultad ng Parmasya, kung saan ibinahagi ang kanilang community-engaged research sa mga katuwang na pamayanan at institusyon.

Sa pagtatapos ng pagtitipon, muling pinagtibay ang sama-samang adbokasiya tungo sa kapayapaan, kalikasan, at paghubog ng mas maalwang lipunan.

Sanga-sanga man ang ating mga landas, tayo’y muling magtatagpo sa kanto ng UST.🕊️🍃🛣️

Ang UST SIMBAHAYAN Community Development Office, kasama ang Office of the Vice Rector for Religious Affairs, National Service Training Program (CWTS/LTS), at Samahang Kamanlalakbay, ay magsasagawa ng Kamanlalakbay 23: Annual Leaders’ Formation and Samahang Kamanlalakbay General Assembly 2026 mula Hulyo 2–4, 2026.

Bitbit ang temang, “Sangandaan para sa Kapayapaan at Kalikasan: Iba’t Ibang Ruta na Nagpapanagpo Tungo sa Maalwang Lipunan,” muling magsasama-sama ang UST at ang mga katuwang na pamayanan at institusyon sa taunang pagsasama-aralan, pagsubaybay, pagtatasa, at pagpaplano para sa patuloy na pagpapaunlad ng pamayanan. Tulad ng mga kalsadang nagtatagpo sa isang rotonda, iba’t iba man ang ating pinanggagalingan at tinatahak na ruta, iisa ang ating mithiin, ang pagkamit ng kapayapaan, pangangalaga sa kalikasan, at paghubog ng isang maalwang lipunan.

Assistant Professors Froilan A. Alipao, MCD, and Christian Rey D. Rimando, MSPT, Director and Assistant Director of the UST SIMBAHAYAN Community Development Office, respectively, were invited by St. Joseph's College of Quezon City (SJCQC) to serve as resource speakers-facilitators for their Seminar-Workshop on Service-Learning on May 25, 2026. It was attended by fifty (50) academic staff from the Basic Education, Special Needs, and College departments. The School President, Sr. Marivic Galamay, SFIC, warmly welcomed Assistant Professors Alipao and Rimando as speakers, noting that both are alumni of SJCQC.

The Seminar-Workshop helped deepen participants' understanding of Service-Learning as a transformative pedagogical approach and guided them in applying applicable frameworks and strategies to integrate community engagement and instruction meaningfully. The program and experience in community development and Service-Learning of UST SIMBAHAYAN and UST as a whole helped guide participants toward aligning and integrating Service-Learning into the curriculum, instruction, and mission of service.

📢TULONG TOMASINO PARA SA MGA NASALANTA NG LINDOL SA MINDANAO📢

The University, through the UST SIMBAHAYAN Community Development Office together with Office of the Vice-Rector for Religious Affairs, launches the “Tulong Tomasino” cash donation drive to extend assistance to communities severely affected by the recent earthquake in Mindanao.

Asst. Prof. Froilan A. Alipao, MCD, Director of the UST SIMBAHAYAN Community Development Office, was invited to be a resource person for a whole-day lecture-sharing last May 13, 2026, on the “Basic Ecclesial Community and Household Development Approach” as one of the topics of the Sabbatical Program Scholarship by the Conference of Major Superiors in the Philippines (CMSP) and the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation-Catholic Sisters Initiative, which runs from April 7 to June 6, 2026. The program was held at the OMI Spirituality Center in Quezon City.

This program is designed for consecrated sisters who would want to be renewed, revitalized, recharged, reconnected, and who are open to exploring new possibilities to deepen their consecration and their commitment to serve the Church and the world. The program provides consecrated women with a fresh perspective, allowing them to embrace themselves as they aspire to become more effective, affective, and innovative in the mission.
