Born officially in 1947, but with roots that traces back to the revolutionary days, the Philippine Red Cross has truly become the premier humanitarian organization in the country, committed to provide quality life-saving services that protect the life and dignity especially of indigent Filipinos in vulnerable situations.
The story of the Philippine Red Cross is the story of men and women from all walks of life who have dedicated themselves to the service of humanity. It is the tale of hundreds of thousands of ordinary people who devoted their time and resources to help the poorest of the poor. Professionally trained and truly compassionate, these men and women are ready to lend a helping hand to those in need โ whoever, whenever and wherever they may be.
In all its 71 years of reputable existence, the Philippine Red Cross has lived through many changes that were intended to help more people. Where it used to be involved only in providing blood and in disaster-related activities, the Philippine Red Cross now focuses on a holistic approach to uplift the condition of the most vulnerable. Where it used to offer short-term palliatives, it now offers a wider array of humanitarian services ranging from preventive medicine to therapeutic counseling, to youth leadership.
At present, the Philippine Red Cross provides six major services: Blood Services, Disaster Management Services, Safety Services, Health Services, Social Services, Red Cross Youth and Volunteer Services. All of them embody the fundamental principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement โ humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality. These values guide and inspire all Red Cross staff and volunteers, to whom being a Red Crosser is more than just a philosophy but a way of life.

The Philippine Red Cross Caloocan City Chapter
In September 1947 the Philippine Red Cross established the Caloocan sub-office to serve the towns of Caloocan (later converted into a city), Malabon and Navotas. Its office was situated inside the municipal building.
When the town of Caloocan became a city of January 16, 1962, the Red Cross sub-office bid for, and became an independent chapter. The first auxiliary board was then organized, and later on its chapter board of directors.
The first auxiliary board was headed by Dr. Jesus Basa, as honorary chairman; Dr. Ciriaco Santiago, Chairman and Atty. Eliseo Marquez, Secretary.
The members of the board were Atty. Sefronio Delarmente, Dr. Salvador Sampedro, Nicanor Nadurata, Atty. Ricardo Pronovo, Dra. Lucille Fedelino, Mrs. Asuncion Paoz-Cruz, Mrs. Asuncion Asistio, Simplicio Ortega, Fabio Ablola, Rev. Fr. Pedro Abad, Dr. Ramon Quesada and Maj. Domingo T. Jacinto.
With the organization of the first board of directors, the following were elected or named officers and members to serve a two year term from 1962 to 1964; Mayor Macario B. Asistio, honorary chairman; Emiliano Custodio, Chairman; Dr. Salvador Sampedro, Vice Chairman; Atty. Ramon Tupas, Secretary; Amado Oliveros; Treasurer and Ramon Arceo, Auditor.
Members of the board were: Msgr. Pedro R. Vicedo, Manuel Ang, Sotero Baluyot Lee, Mrs. Asuncion Asistio, Engr. Augusto Perez, Supt. Francisco Salamat, Mrs. Adela Santiago, Eliseo Aurelio, Atty. Igmedio Lomibao, Dr. Jose Tejada, Dr. Nicolas Concepcion, Col. Celestino Rosca and Lt. Col. Wilfredo Encarnacion.
Since 1962 four volunteers have already served as chairmen of the chapteโs board, namely: Dr. Emiliano Custodio (1962-1964), Dr. Salvador Sam Pedro (1965-1967), Engr. Augusto Perez (1967-1969) and the incumbent chairman Atty. Generoso V. Jacinto.
On the other hand, its chapter administrators so far have been the following: Mrs. Angelita Villavert (Jan 16, 1963 โ Sept 1963), Miss Paz Sampedro (1964-1968) and the incumbent chapter administrator Mrs. Prudy O. Barlett who was transferred form Mindoro Oriental in 1969.
The Caloocan City Red Cross counts on the ready support of officials of the city government, division of city schools, private organizations and the various educational institutions in the city.
The chapter has been training volunteers extensively to provide them an idea of how they can render their service to the community through the Red Cross
During the massive relief operations for victims of typhoons Sening, Titaing and Yoling in 1970, among the volunteers who served in the Red Cross Clothing Bank, sorting out textiles and relief goods were youth volunteers form various schools in the city.
The chapter is also going out in full force, with the support of volunteers in promoting the nursing service of the Red Cross, as well as of its youth program, disaster preparedness program, and in carrying out its educational program in first aid and the other safety courses.
Most notably, it has also carried out blood donations in the city jail, with prisoners giving willingly of their blood to the Red Cross.
The Caloocan City Red Cross acquired its present lot on 7th Avenue, Grace Park at the compound of Tandang Sora Elementary School on May 15, 1970. The Bureau of Public Schools donated the lot through the efforst of City Schools Supt. Mrs. Modesta Boquiren. The chapter building was completed on September 26, 1971 and was inaugurated on November 18 of the same year.
Through the continued support of volunteers and residents of the city, the chapter has also oversubscribed its fund campaign goals since 1969.
At present, Caloocan City Chapter is being manage by its Chapter Administrator Mr. Roberto R. Dacles and Mr. Russel C. Ramirez the Chairman of the Board of Directors.
