The Miami Heat's 1-3-1 pick-and-roll offense against the Denver Nuggets in Game 2 of the 2023 NBA Finals
This play is only suited for a team with catch-and-shoot players and cutters.
How do you apply this play to your game?
At first, the offensive team will form a slanting 1-3-1 arrangement. One on the top of the key, two on the wings, one on either elbows, and the other one on either corners.
On this play:
PG waits on the wing and is ready for a catch-and- shot three.
SG makes a screen, runs towards the right corner, and is ready to shoot for three.
SF serves as the ballhandler, reads the defense, and sets up a teammate for a catch-and-shoot three.
PF stays in the right corner and is ready for a catch-and-shoot three.
C makes a screen and moves from the left elbow to the top of the key to help set up a play for either wing.

Denver Nuggets' Horn plays against the Miami Heat in the first quarter of the 2023 NBA Finals Game 1 looked very effective as their PG and SG got a shot.
At this time, they use their advantage in the high post area to find a screen for their shooters.
To apply this play to your game. This is how they run their offense.
PG sets the play and reads the defense as center and power forward are positioned on their respective elbows, while small forward and shooting guard are also on their respective corners. Once the ball is already passed to either PF or C, whoever receives the ball will adopt the pick-and-roll. But if the defense is tough, either of the three (PG, SG, or SF) will do the cutting and take the ball for a shot. Before they do the cut, they must look at the availability of the screen and the ball to take.
One of Boston's plays in order to recover from a 3–0 deficit vs. the Heat is the Horns flare play.
The Horns flare offense is when you have players positioned on two elbows and on two corners. It is called a "horns flare offense" because it forms like the horn of a bull. Other coaches also called this play "A, set-up" because it forms the letter A.
How do you run this offense?
At this time, give Center a shot because SF is defended well.
PG dribbles the ball as center and power forward are on the two elbows, while small forward and shooting guard are on the two corners. When PF moves across the floor to the left wing, PG will pass the ball to him and proceed to the right wing.
SG stays in the right corner for the possibility of a catch and shot.
SF stays in the left corner and anticipates a catch and shot. If the defense is tough, he will pass the ball back to PF or give the ball to C, who is near the rim.
PF receives the ball from PG, dribbles it off of C's screen, and then quickly passes the ball to SF.
C sets the screen for PF and moves in to the low post for a pass and then a shot.
One of Miami's plays in their effort to win Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals vs. the Boston Celtics, the favorite team to win this series, is the backcut play with elbow isolation.
At this time, the PF will shoot the ball.
This play is an effective action because it can mitigate the usefulness of off-ball denial defense near the perimeter and, at the same time, create a potential scoring opportunity near the basket. There are a lot of plays for BACK CUT PLAY, but this is one of the best plays.
PG handles the ball, passes the ball to the center, who is coming from the low post area, and stays at the top of the key.
SG stays on the wing and waits for the possibility of a catch and shot.
SF makes a baseline cut and proceeds to the corner for the possibility of a corner 3.
PF makes a step-up screen, cuts quickly towards the basket, receives the ball from the center, who is on the elbow, and then shoots the ball.
C goes up towards the elbow, receives the ball from PG, and then finds an angle for a pass to PF while he is cutting towards the basket.
What a nice play!

SF passes the ball to the center, sets a screen for PG, and then runs toward the opposite low post area.
PF waits on the corner and then runs towards the low post area for a pass coming from the center. Before shooting, first read the defense, make a fake shot, and then shoot. If well depended upon, pass the ball back to C.
C holds and dribbles the ball coming from SF, sets a screen and finds an angle in passing to PG, anticipates the ball being passed back from PG, and then passes to PF, who is near the basket.
