GOVERNOR'S CUP U-18 BASKETBALL IS READY FOR THE COMEBACK! 🔥🏀

The excitement is building as the Governor’s Cup U-18 Basketball Tournament 2026 officially returns to the court!

During the much awaited press conference and official relaunch, Governor Pamela Baricuatro led the announcement of the tournament’s return, joined by Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC) Chairperson Dr. Rhoel James Timothy O. Dejano, Dr. Janos Vizcayno Jr., Commissioner Mark Anthony Ynoc, and Commissioner Francis Chad Salimbangon, together with the tournament organizing team.

The press conference marked the beginning of a new chapter for Cebu basketball, as the province prepares to bring together young athletes from municipalities and component cities for a tournament focused on talent development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

After a six-year break, the Governor’s Cup is set to once again provide a bigger platform for Cebu’s rising basketball stars to compete, inspire, and showcase their passion for the game.

COMMISSIONERS' MEETING HIGHLIGHTS | CEBU PROVINCIAL SPORTS COMMISSION

The Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC) convened for a productive Commissioners' Meeting, bringing together its leadership to discuss key developments, evaluate ongoing initiatives, and plan the Commission's future programs in support of sports development across the Province of Cebu. The meeting was led by CPSC Chairman Dr. Rhoel James Timothy O. Dejaño, together with Commissioners Francis Chad A. Salimbangon, Mark Leo Chang, Paul Jake Castillo, and Mark Anthony A. Ynoc, and members reaffirming the Commission's shared commitment to strengthening sports programs and creating more opportunities for Cebuano athletes.

Among the major matters discussed were the Capitol Sportsfest Expenditures, the Proposed CPSC Budget for 2027, updates on the Governor's Run, the Governor's Cup Basketball Tournament, Batang Pinoy 2026, the Grassroots Sports Development Program, and the Dayun-Dayun Expenses. These discussions focused on ensuring the effective implementation of programs, responsible financial management, and strategic planning for upcoming sporting events and initiatives that will continue to benefit athletes and local communities throughout the province.

The meeting also served as an opportunity for the Commission to assess the progress of its activities while identifying new ways to strengthen grassroots sports, support aspiring athletes, and promote an active and healthy lifestyle among Cebuanos. The battle between Team Agrimeds and Team Legislators was a showcase of determination and grit. Every set was fiercely contested as both teams refused to give up a single point. Team Legislators fought with incredible resilience, but Team Agrimeds answered every challenge with outstanding teamwork, precision attacks, and relentless defense. Their chemistry, composure, and championship mindset carried them through the biggest moments, earning them the Women's Volleyball Championship and the honor of lifting the trophy.

Gov's Cup set to return AFTER a six-year hiatus, the Governor’s Cup U-18 basketball tournament is set to return this September, giving young basketball talents from across Cebu Provinc

Preparations for the 1st Governor's Zero Hunger Run continue to intensify as Commissioner Francis Chad Salimbangon led a comprehensive coordination meeting to finalize the event's operational masterplan and ensure a seamless race day experience for all participants.

The meeting included a thorough run through of the entire event flow, focusing on the strategic placement of hydration stations, medical and first aid posts, police and security deployment, food distribution areas, finisher's shirt and medal collection, runners' flow, VIP areas, tents and stalls, waste management, supplier coordination for food, sounds and lights, and the awarding program. A color coded masterplan was also presented to clearly define key locations and responsibilities, allowing every team to work in sync from the starting line to the finish.

The coordination meeting was attended by the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC) Staff, Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO), Civil Security Unit (CSU), Provincial General Services Office (PGSO), Public Information Office (PIO), Cebu Provincial Tourism Office (CPTO), the Sound Technical Team, the Philippine National Police (PNP), and participating Local Government Units (LGUs), all working together to ensure that every aspect of the event is carefully planned and efficiently executed.

As race day draws near, Cebu Province remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering not only a safe and well organized event but also a meaningful initiative that unites the community in the fight against hunger. Through teamwork, meticulous planning, and a shared purpose, the 1st Governor's Zero Hunger Run is set to become a memorable celebration of health, solidarity, and compassion.

The excitement only intensified in the second semifinal showdown as Team Service Planners and Team Legislators engaged in a fierce battle that kept the crowd on the edge of their seats. With grit, teamwork, and championship composure, Team Legislators weathered every challenge and emerged victorious, securing the final berth in the title match.

From thunderous spikes to game-saving digs and every hard-earned point, the semifinal round showcased the true spirit of sportsmanship, teamwork, and competitive excellence.
