Bill Booth is a legendary inventor, entrepreneur, and safety pioneer whose innovations have fundamentally shaped modern skydiving. Beginning his own skydiving journey in 1965 and becoming an instructor by 1967, Bill has earned 12 U.S. and international patents covering core safety systems—including the hand‑deploy pilot chute, the Skyhook reserve-deployment system, and most notably, the three-ring release system, which is widely regarded as one of the most important safety innovations in the history of the sport.

Congratulations to Hall of Fame member Norman Kent, recipient of the 2025 Path of Excellence Award from the International Skydiving Museum & Hall of Fame for his groundbreaking film From Wings Came Flight.

More than just a film, From Wings Came Flight changed the trajectory of skydiving forever. Through his lens—and alongside his late wife, the incomparable Deanna “Skydancer” Kent—Norman captured more than beautiful images. He captured possibility. Deanna’s graceful movements introduced the world to freestyle skydiving, pioneering a new discipline and opening the door to the 3D flight we now celebrate across the sport.

Their collaboration inspired an entire generation of skydivers to imagine new ways of moving through the sky. Today, so many of the creative disciplines we know and love trace their roots to this single, extraordinary contribution.

Norman, thank you for your artistry, your courage to explore the unknown, and for giving flight to what once lived only in the imagination.
