Just in....

MARK MAHINAY takes gold in the 1,500 m run in the National PRISAA GAMES..

Our proud Spectrum Runners Phils member
Mark Mahinay, a Mayo Clinic and Dialysis center Athletic scholar, and running for University of Cebu and Region 7 in these games, defended the 1,500 m title he won last year..
Straight from the Borneo International Marathon in Malaysia where he competed in the 21 km, he just arrived in Bacolod City only last night and with little amount of rest. Still weary from the event, and with only a few hours to settle down, he ran in the 1500 m run at 7 am this morning. We were a bit worried about what would be the outcome, for he would probably not be in the best shape considering the conditions. Yet, Mark Mahinay breezed in the last lap, and emphatically won the gold with plenty to spare His winning time of 4:02 is more than enough to win the gold and defend his title. His best time in the 1500 m is the 3:54 in the Philippine National Games where he won the bronze medal in the presence of the members of Phil National team. He also won the bronze in this event in the last staging of the Phil Athletic Championships / National Open.
Having won three gold medals in last year's National PRISAA games, Mahinay however failed to defend the 5,000 m title. His trip to Bacolod City from Malaysia could not arrive in time for the 5000 m event. Incidentally, another Spectrum representing the Negros Island Region Antonio Evangelista Jr won the 5,000 m gold medal.
Mahinay howver will have ample time to rest for today and the whole day tomorrow to prepare for his title defense in the 10,000 m run. He is the National PRISAA record holder in both the 5,000 m and the 10,000 m.

Congratulations MARK MAHINAY !!!
We are always very happy and proud of all your success! Bravo !!!!!!!

Evangelista cops gold in men's 5,000 m

ANTONIO EVANGELISTA JR, representing the Negros Island Region in these games, copped the Gold medal in the men's 5000 m run in the National PRISAA Games in Bacolod City.
Evangelista, a proud member of Spectrum Runners Philippines Dumaguete/Negros chapter, won in a new personal best time of 15:48.
The distance was won for the past two years by MARK MAHINAY, who had already won gold medals in the 5000 m in the last two stagings.
Mahinay is also the National PRISAA record holder in both the 5,000 m and 10,000 m distances. In the absence of Mahinay, who couldn't make it in time for the event due to his participation in the Borneo International Marathon in Malaysia, it was a fitting display for Evangelista to fill in the gap, winning the gold in the process. This ensured that a Spectrum member had won the 5,000 m gold for the past three stagings of the National PRISAA Games.
Congratulations ANTONIO EVANGELISTA!!
We are very proud of your successful journey
