JIYUWAZA WITH VAN SENSEI

Another memorable moment from the 11th Visayas Aikido Fellowship in Iloilo City.

In between sessions, Van Gancio Sensei of Aikido Iloilo shared his movement and technique through various Jiyuwaza demonstrations with our kohais, Jose and Denzel, serving as uke.

Jiyuwaza, or “free technique,” allows practitioners to respond freely to attacks while maintaining proper timing, balance, awareness, and control. It is one of the best ways to develop adaptability and fluid movement in Aikido.

Thank you, Van Sensei, for sharing your time, knowledge, and energy with us during the fellowship. 🙏

to one of our sessions at the old Sacred Heart Center dojo back in August 2009. 🥋

This video features a very young Benson Sensei and Grae Senpai together with some of our senior members during our early years as a dojo. Looking back at moments like these reminds us how far the dojo has come through the years through continuous practice, friendship, and dedication to Aikido.

Special thanks as well to Mr. Yasuhito Honda for recording and uploading this video on his YouTube page many years ago. Mr. Honda has always been one of SHACC’s valued supporters and one of the people who helped pave the way for SHACC’s early promotion on social media. We truly appreciate your support through the years.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of our journey since day one. 🙏

A spontaneous moment turned into a memorable learning experience 🥋✨

During a break in between sessions at the 11th Visayas Aikido Fellowship in Iloilo City, Cris Buenaseda Sensei of Aikido Philippines demonstrated Morotedori Jiyuwaza together with Shaun, one of our senior students, as his uke.

Daghang salamat, Cris Sensei, for this sudden but truly memorable collaboration and for sharing your knowledge and energy with everyone present!

Two attackers. One defender. Total focus, timing, and harmony. 🥋🔥

Here’s a glimpse of our students — together with our friends from Aikido Centrum Cebu — demonstrating Futari Gake, a form of Aikido practice where one person responds to attacks from two partners simultaneously.

Futari Gake is practiced to develop awareness, movement, positioning, calmness under pressure, and the ability to blend with multiple attacks without relying on strength. More than technique, it teaches adaptability, presence of mind, and maintaining harmony even in challenging situations. 🥋✨

Building discipline, confidence, and harmony through continuous learning 🥋✨

We continued our Aikido training sessions with the students of the Norwegian Training Center of the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM) last night and today as part of the ongoing program that began late last year.

It has been inspiring to witness the students’ growth and dedication throughout the training — from mastering the basics of ukemi to developing better balance, awareness, and coordination on the mat. 💪

Thank you once again to the NTC-UCLM community for the continued trust and support. We look forward to more meaningful training sessions ahead! 🙏

to an unforgettable moment in SHACC history 🇹🇭🥋

Back in April 2008, we proudly represented the Philippines during the 1st Southeast Asian Nations Aikido Fellowship in Bangkok, Thailand. Our Embukai demonstration was led by Benson Sensei together with Grae Senpai, John Senpai, and Cocoh Senpai. 🙇‍♂️✨

This remains a proud milestone that continues to inspire our dojo up to this day.

We are also grateful to the organizers of the event, especially Motohiro Fukakusa Shihan, one of the pioneers behind what would become an annual gathering of aikidokas across Southeast Asia.
