Daniel Kahneman won the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for explaining why smart people make bad decisions. He never mentioned pickleball, but he might as well have. His book Thinking, Fast and Slow describes two modes of thought running inside every human head — and both of them show up at the kitchen line whether you invite them or not.

System 1 is fast, automatic, and effortless. System 2 is slow, deliberate, and lazy. System 1 returns a serve without conscious thought. System 2 decides whether to stack on the next point. Understanding when each system helps you — and when it sabotages you — might be the cheapest upgrade available to your game.

System 1 handles anything trained into reflex: tracking the ball, adjusting your grip, blocking a body shot you never saw coming. It operates in milliseconds and never gets tired.

System 2 handles everything requiring deliberation: reading an opponent's pattern, choosing a serve target, deciding when your team should shift strategy. It's powerful but slow, and Kahneman's central warning is that System 2 is lazy — it delegates to System 1 whenever it can get away with it.

On a pickleball court, that delegation is often...

🤯 DID YOU KNOW?

One of the biggest pickleball myths is that the sport was named after a dog named Pickles. 🐶

Plot twist: According to co-inventor Barney McCallum, that’s actually not true!

The name “pickleball” is believed to have come from the “pickle boat” in rowing—a boat made up of leftover rowers from different teams. Much like pickleball itself, which is a fun mix of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. 🏓

Interestingly, the McCallum family didn’t even get their dog, Pickles, until after the game had already been named! So while the story about the dog is adorable, it isn’t the origin of the sport’s name.

Next time someone says, “Is it named after a dog?” you’ll have the perfect fun fact to share. 😉

The more you know, the better the conversations between rallies! 🏓✨

Thank you to our clients for giving us these 2 hours on court.

We used every minute to train, improve, and remind ourselves that while we coach others, we never stop coaching ourselves.

As partners in life and on the court, we believe growth comes from showing up, staying humble, and embracing the process.

Though this video may only show our power drills, but one of the greatest lessons pickleball has taught me isn’t just about hitting harder—it’s about learning to reset and return.

One lesson pickleball keeps teaching us: Reset and return.

Not every point is yours to win, just as not every day goes your way. Reset your mind, return with purpose, and keep moving forward.

In life, reset. Return. Grow. ❤️🏓
