Comeback Race: An Ultra Worth Remembering

I was hesitant about joining this ultra. Honestly, I had very little time to prepare, no proper mileage, no solid training block. And we all know that running an ultramarathon isn’t something you take lightly. It demands time, dedication, and consistency. Three things I didn’t have enough of leading up to race day.

I almost backed out, especially when I saw the names on the list of registered participants. Three of them were recent champions in long-distance events. Just seeing their names made me question my decision even more. "What am I doing here?" I thought. "There's no way I’m making it to the podium."

But sometimes, it’s not about winning. Sometimes, it’s about showing up about answering the call when your heart tells you, “Let’s go.”

So I ran. I ran with what little I had, sheer grit, the lessons from past races, and the hunger to feel that burn again. I battled through fatigue, doubt, and those quiet moments where your mind tells you to quit. But step after step, I reminded myself that this was my comeback, not a competition against anyone else.

In the end, I didn’t just finish. I crossed that line with pride, knowing I gave everything I could.

To anyone out there doubting themselves: don’t wait for the perfect time or condition. Sometimes, the comeback begins the moment you decide to try.
