DAVAO'S PRIDE.
Undisputed International Boxing Organization (IBO) World light flyweight champion Rey "Singwangcha" Loreto, a native of Calinan, Davao City was again the Boxer of the Year in the annual 16th Gabriel "Flash" Elorde Boxing Awards held in Manila. It is the second straight award for Loreto, who defended successfully his title in South Africa despite being newly operated for acute appendicitis.
Loreto, however, until now has not yet been paid of his boxer's purse worth P2 million by the South African promoter. Loreto is a product of the amateur boxing program in Calinan under the late City Councilor Louie Villafuerte.
Let's help revive amateur boxing and discover new talents in Davao by supporting the newly-formed Davao City Boxing Club (Daciboc) headed by Calinan Kagawad Renato "Tata" Villafuerte. (LITO DELOS REYES)
