Muling nagmarka sa Philippine swimming si Kayla Sanchez matapos magtakda ng bagong Philippine National Record sa Women’s 100m Freestyle sa 2026 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships.
Naitala ni Sanchez ang 53.46 segundo sa finals, sapat upang burahin ang dati niyang national record na 53.67 segundo, na kanyang itinakda noong 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Bago ang finals, nagtala muna siya ng 53.65 segundo sa morning preliminaries. Mas pinabilis pa niya ang kanyang performance sa finals, kung saan ibinaba niya ang national mark sa 53.46 segundo.
Nagtapos si Sanchez sa ika-6 na puwesto overall, ngunit mas naging kapansin-pansin ang kanyang performance dahil sa panibagong national record para sa Pilipinas.
Isa na naman itong makasaysayang milestone para kay Sanchez at sa Philippine swimming scene.
