The closure of critical oil passages is putting Asia’s fuel reserves under the spotlight. Limited reserves could severely impact the travel and tourism sector, causing higher fares, reduced flights, and restricted mobility for both domestic and international travelers.
So how is the current fuel situation across Asia? The region shows a wide gap, some economies hold only around 15–20 days of reserves, while others maintain buffers of 60 days or more, and a few exceed 200 days through strategic stockpiles.
This uneven preparedness highlights a growing risk: prolonged supply disruptions could quickly strain aviation operations, limit connectivity, and slow down tourism recovery across the region.
