Karate blocking techniques are essential for defense, helping practitioners deflect, redirect, and control incoming attacks. Age Uke protects the upper body, Gedan Barai defends against low attacks, while Uchi Uke and Soto Uke provide effective inside and outside defensive movements.

Counting in Japanese (for Karate) is one of the first skills every karate student learns. The Japanese counting system helps synchronize movement, breathing, and rhythm during kihon (basics), kata, and conditioning exercises. The standard sequence is: Ichi (1), Ni (2), San (3), Shi/Yon (4), Go (5), Roku (6), Shichi/Nana (7), Hachi (8), Kyū (9), Jū (10). After ten, the numbers combine naturally, such as Jū Ichi (11), Jū Ni (12), and Ni Jū (20). Counting loudly develops focus, discipline, and confidence while ensuring everyone moves together. Mastering these numbers is a simple but essential step in building strong karate fundamentals and respecting traditional Japanese dojo culture.
