π΅π Johann Chua wins his maiden Duya Legends title in impressive fashion, defeating π¨π³ Lai Kun Zhang with a final score of 109-61 in the championship match of the Duya Aiplay Sport S800 Charity Cup.
His road to the title included a win over former Duya title winner πΉπΌ Ko Pin Yi in a match that went punch-for-punch.
With the victory, Chua becomes the first Filipino Duya tournament champion and takes home the top prize of RM200,000, roughly US$50,000.
A bigger tournament is coming up on June 17, the 2026 Duya Legends Golden Nine Beijing International Open, where the Global Champion Prize is listed at Β₯5 million (US$739,000).
Will Chua try to compete and chase an even bigger prize?
Chuaβs win could also set a precedent for more Filipino players. With travel expenses continuing to rise, will we see more Filipino cue players explore Chinese 9-ball and 8-ball tournaments, especially with many of these events being held within the region?

The future of Philippine billiards was on full display at the 2026 Palarong Pambansa, as young cueists from different regions battled for national pride in the secondary boysβ and girlsβ billiards events.
In the boysβ division, Rayden Camu of Bicol captured the Secondary Boys 9-Ball gold medal after a thrilling 6-5 comeback win over Prince Crisann M. Delos Santos of Region III. Prince also delivered one of the strongest overall performances of the tournament, winning gold in Secondary Boys 8-Ball and silver in Secondary Boys 9-Ball.
In the girlsβ division, Precious Khatleen B. Awa of Bicol completed a brilliant double-gold campaign, ruling both the Secondary Girls 8-Ball and Secondary Girls 9-Ball events. She defeated Chinie Gardoce of Region VI in the 9-Ball final, while also adding another gold to her name in 8-Ball.
The podium finishes also highlighted the depth of young talent across the country, with players such as Geferson A. Berte, Heloise Llenares, Ryan Z. Basil, Princess Jocel Macaballug, Jovet Galia, and Pauline E. Lubo earning medals on the national stage.
Some of the Palarong Pambansa products who have gone on to make waves in the international scene include AJ Manas, the 2023 Hanoi Junior Open champion, and Rhaki Constantino, the recent 2026 Asian Heyball Championship winner.
The school stage continues to be one of the important starting points for Philippine billiards, giving young players a platform to compete, grow, and build their names for bigger tournaments ahead.
