Alyssa Valdez may no longer dominate games the way she did during her peak years, but the Alas Pilipinas captain proved she remains far from finished.

The three-time PVL MVP led the Filipinas with 14 points as the hosts dismantled Uzbekistan, 25-16, 25-12, 25-14, to begin their 2026 AVC Women's Volleyball Cup campaign on a winning note.

Yet even after another productive outing, some fans remained focused on comparing Valdez to her younger self, insisting that the veteran star has already lost the explosiveness that once made her "The Phenom."

What many overlook, however, is that Valdez no longer needs to be the player she was ten years ago.

At 33, her game has evolved, relying more on experience, leadership, and efficiency while continuing to contribute at the highest level.

And as Saturday's victory showed, Alyssa Valdez still has plenty left to offer the national team.

Valdez praised the former UP standout's lively personality, saying it has played a major role in strengthening the chemistry of the national team.

The four-time UAAP Best Middle Blocker impressed in her first official match for Alas Pilipinas, tallying 12 points and four blocks as the Filipinas overwhelmed Uzbekistan in straight sets.

Her performance placed her alongside veterans Valdez, Jovelyn Gonzaga, and Ces Molina among the team's double-digit scorers.

With her talent, enthusiasm, and ability to uplift teammates, Ytang is quickly proving why many believe she could become one of the faces of Philippine volleyball's next generation.

Alyssa Solomon may not have seen action in Alas Pilipinas' opening victory over Uzbekistan, but her absence was never a cause for concern.

According to interim coach Shaq Delos Santos, the former National University star is simply being eased back into competition after spending time away from the national team setup.

Solomon, who recently chose country over the professional ranks by withdrawing from the 2026 PVL Draft, is still regaining her conditioning and adjusting to the team's system.

Fortunately for Alas Pilipinas, the veterans stepped up.
