From only one SEA Games gold medal in 2019 and 2021, we clinched two golds in 2023, and now we have three ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
We definitely are peaking, and we have already stepped into another glorious era of Philippine Swimming.
In William Wilson's era, the highest number of gold medals we won was nine in 1983 Singapore SEA Games, with 9-4-10 medal tally. Four of the nine were won by William Wilson (all individual events)
In Eric Buhain's era, the highest number of gold medals we won was also nine in 1991 Manila SEA Games, with 9-3-5 medal tally. Five of the nine were won by Eric Buhain (all individual events)
In Miguel Molina's era, the highest number of gold medals we won was eight in 2007 Thailand SEA Games, with 8-3-7 medal tally. Four of the 9 were won by Miguel Molina (3 individual events & 1 relay)
Interestingly, this new era of Philippine Swimming is being paved by female swimmers. Chloe Isleta's gold in 2021, Xiandi Chua's and Tei Salvino's golds in 2023, and Kayla Sanchez' golds this year (along with our relay gang)
So far, Kayla Sanchez is leading the gold medal haul in this new era; while our youngsters and veterans are also showing great potentials of securing more golds for our country in their next SEA Games.
3 Golds - Kayla Sanchez (2025)
2 Golds - Chloe Isleta (2021 & 2025)
2 Golds - Xiandi Chua (2023 & 2025)
1 Gold - Heather White (2025)
1 Gold - Teia Salvino (2023)
No doubt.... the 2027 SEA Games in Malaysia would be really really really exciting!
