⚖️🇵🇭 NBI LAUNCHES PROBE INTO ALLEGED ₱10-BILLION IRREGULARITIES FOR 2019 SEA GAMES CLARK COMPLEX! 🏛️🔍

Nearly seven years after the flame went out on the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, the massive infrastructure projects built for the regional meet are back under the microscope.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has officially launched a sweeping probe into alleged funding anomalies surrounding the multi-billion peso sports complex in New Clark City, Tarlac.

🚨 What Triggered the Investigation?

According to NBI Director Melvin Matibag, investigators stumbled upon the issue during a recent visit to New Clark City to scope out land for a new 70-hectare NBI Academy. While on-site, the bureau received information pointing to massive, unresolved financial red flags:

• ₱10 Billion Unliquidated:There are indications that approximately ₱10 billion in public funds tied to the sports complex's construction have yet to be properly liquidated.

• No Public Bidding: A Malaysian firm built the massive complex, but allegations suggest that the project bypassed standard competitive bidding procedures entirely.

• GAA Congressional Insertions: The ₱10 billion was reportedly paid out rapidly through direct insertions in the national government's General Appropriations Act (GAA).

"We have something to look at... when we got there, it turns out that billions of pesos came in here that were unliquidated," Matibag told reporters in Filipino. "A private company was involved and was paid ₱10 billion immediately with no bidding. We will investigate this. This is a big case."

🔥 The Controversial Cauldron Re-opens

In addition to the physical sports facilities, Matibag confirmed that the NBI will also take another hard look at the controversial ₱50-million SEA Games cauldron. The giant structure—designed by the late National Artist Francisco Mañosa—drew heavy public backlash in 2019 over its massive price tag.

While previous organizers have strongly defended the spending, insisting there was zero corruption involved, the NBI is gearing up to run a full evidence-driven review of all projects linked to the 2019 event.

Filipina tennis star Alex Eala has secured the biggest payday of her career after advancing to the fourth round of Wimbledon, marking her best-ever finish at the grass-court Grand Slam.

The 21-year-old earned $401,022, or about P22.7 million, from her run at the All England Club, according to tournament prize money figures.

The latest payout lifted Eala’s career prize earnings to more than $2.24 million.

Prior to Wimbledon, Eala had already collected $871,438 in prize money during the 2026 season, making her earnings from the tournament equivalent to nearly half of her haul for the year.

The Philippine rowing team is making waves on the international stage! After a dominant campaign across Europe, our national rowers have returned home with a haul of medals from elite competitions in Germany and Austria.

Leading the charge was Paris 2024 Olympian Joanie Delgaco, who displayed world-class form by clinching a bronze medal in the women’s single sculls at the prestigious 67th Internationale Ratzeburger Ruderregatta in Germany.

Delgaco kept her momentum going at the 122nd Vienna International Rowing Regatta in Austria, where she secured another bronze in the women’s single sculls and teamed up with Kristine Paraon to snag a second bronze in the women’s double sculls.
