IBP 4th Tournament - Day 2
The Finals: Jabroniz defeat Shounki Jatt 67-65

‘NAVJET’ STARS IN THE CLUTCH
Singh’s Layup Give Jabroniz Back-to-Back Titles

With their once-insurmountable lead gone, everybody expected the young and inexperienced Jabroniz to fold. The sight of their SJ counterparts cheering and flexing after blasting an 18-point deficit, nobody could blame them, because SJ was a shoe-in favorite anyway come game time after adding not one but two FIBL all-stars in their lineup.

Once raucous and jubilant, the Jabroniz bench was a picture of shock and anguish, staring at what could probably be the biggest meltdown in the league’s young history. Fortunately for them, however, their young star -- Navjot Singh -- wasn’t ready to wave the flag just yet.

Singh was a picture of poise and grace under pressure, hitting four pressure-packed free throws and then turned on the jets late, capping off a dominant campaign with a story book ending by hitting the game-winning layup, leading Jabroniz to scintillating 67-65 win over the gritty SJ in the championship game of the 4th Indian Basketball Philippines Tournament last August 5.

Leading 62-61 with just over a minute remaining in the payoff period, SJ had the chance to ice the game with a field goal but turned the ball over and allowed Singh to pick up his own miss, setting him up for two clutch charities to give the lead back to Jabroniz.

But reigning FIBL Canadian Cup Finals MVP Dinesh Mohnani answered back with layup to regain the lead for his team, before Singh did the same for his on the other end as SJ couldn’t seem to avoid fouling. After a split by Mohnani that tied the game at 65, Singh obliterated the SJ defense with his signature speed, blowing past everyone on his way to score the go-ahead basket.

Brar’s potential championship-winning stepback three-pointer was a few inches off the rim as the buzzer sounded.

Singh was unanimously named Finals MVP, finishing with 30 points, five rebounds, three assists, and four steals. The other half of the splash brothers, Raj, ably helped Navjot with a rare triple-double tallying 11 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists while adding a steal and a blocked shot. Perj Sidhu overcame early foul trouble to contribute 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Brar once again led SJ with a Lebron-esque stat line, posting 38 points and 11 rebounds, but the rest of his team was ice cold from the field especially three-point marksman veteran Vladimir Singh, who missed all of his attempts from three. Mohnani finished with a decent 15 points, three rebounds, five assists, and four steals.
Jabroniz threatened to tear the game wide open early, catching SJ off guard as Navjot and Raj joined hands to propel their team to an early 23-8 advantage late in the first.

Jabroniz continued to pummel SJ, leading by as many as 18 with yet another Navjot breakaway lay up halfway through the third and maintaining that much of a wide margin through the nine minute mark of the fourth, where SJ finally found some life and started inching through that hole.
