🏕️ Coto Mines Campsite Review
💸 Budget
Honestly, the fees themselves are very reasonable — ₱100/night + ₱60 environmental fee won’t hurt.
But the real cost is in the trip. Gas goes up because of the terrain.
The Starlink (₱150/device) is actually a nice option if you want to stay connected, but personally, this is one of those places where it’s better to disconnect.
👉 Pro tip: Stop by San Felipe Public Market before heading up. Fresh fish + simple grilling = best meal you’ll have there.
📝 Permit Requirement
Don’t skip this — this is one of those places that actually checks.
You need to:
• Apply online via Masinloc Municipality page
• Print 2 copies (yes, physical copies)
📶 Signal / Connectivity
• Smart works surprisingly well
• Globe is almost useless (expect dead spots)
If you really need internet:
• Starlink is available (₱150/device) — and it’s legit fast
But the vibe of the place doesn’t really call for scrolling. It’s more of a “sit, stare at the river, and slow down” kind of place.
🌿 Peacefulness / Crowd
This is where Coto Mines really shines.
They strictly enforce quiet hours, and people actually follow it. No loud music, no chaos at night.
You’ll hear:
• Water flowing
• Trees moving
• People just talking quietly
If you’re coming to reset, this hits.
If you’re planning an inuman with speakers… this is not your place.
🚗 Accessibility
This is the part you need to be mentally ready for.
• Around 6 hours from Pampanga
• Last 2 hours = rough road
Not “medyo rough.”
Actual:
• Rocky
• Uneven
• Slow driving
• Nakakapagod
Better if:
• SUV / pickup
• Driver is used to long, rough terrain
But to be fair, this is also why it’s still nice — not everyone is willing to go through that.
🏞️ Ambience / Nature
Once you get there, you kind of forget the trip.
It’s surrounded by:
• Mountains
• Tall trees (almost pine-like)
• Wide rocky riverbeds
Morning and late afternoon are the best — soft light, cooler air, everything feels calm.
At night, it gets really dark… and really quiet.
🌊 Water / Activities
The river is the highlight.
• Clear
• Different depths depending on the spot
You can:
• Swim
• Just sit and soak
• Or do what most people do — set up chairs under a tarp inside the river
That setup alone is worth the trip.
Just be careful:
• Rocks are slippery
⛺ Camping Setup
There are 2 main areas:
1. Near the entrance
• Easier access
• Less effort
• More people
2. Across the river
• You’ll need to cross
• Better overall vibe
🚻 Facilities
Set expectations early so you don’t get disappointed.
CR is:
• Shared
• No flush
• No bidet
• Timba system
It’s clean enough, but very basic.
If you’re used to comfortable camping, this might feel rough.
🛒 Store / Supplies
There’s only one store, and it opens around 9 AM.
It has:
• Basic snacks
• Some essentials
• Starlink access
But don’t rely on it.
Better mindset:
👉 “Whatever I need, I bring.”
🐶 Pet-Friendly
Pets are allowed, and honestly it’s a great place for them:
• Open space
• Nature
Just make sure they’re manageable since it’s a shared space.
🎒 Must Bring (Based on actual need)
• Aqua shoes (rocks will test your patience)
• Food + drinking water
• Ice / cooler
• Lights (it gets really dark)
• Power banks
•
⭐ Overall
• Budget: Sulit
• Signal: Good if Smart, saved by Starlink
• Peacefulness: Top tier
• Accessibility: This is the trade-off
• Facilities: Basic, no shortcuts
• Experience: Worth it if you like real camping
💬 Final Take
Coto Mines isn’t convenient and that’s exactly why it’s good.
You earn the peace. You earn the view. And once you’re there, you slow down whether you like it or not.
