History…

In SEA Games history, only five Filipina swimmers have won a SEA Games gold medal since our country first competed in 1977. They are Christine Jacob, Akiko Thomson, Chloe Isleta, Teia Salvino, and Xiandi Chua.

Among them, Akiko holds the most gold medals with eight, followed by Christine with two, and one gold medal each for Teia, Chloe, and Xiandi.

Our women's SEA Games Gold Medals are as follows:

• 1993 – 100m Back – Akiko Thomson (1:04.86) GR
• 1993 – 200m Back – Akiko Thomson (2:16.76) GR
• 1991 – 100m Back – Akiko Thomson (1:05.00)
• 1991 – 200m Back – Akiko Thomson (2:20.23)
• 1989 – 50m Free – Akiko Thomson (27.62)
• 1989 – 100m Free – Akiko Thomson (59.27)
• 1989 – 100m Back – Akiko Thomson (1:06.47)
• 1987 – 100m Back – Akiko Thomson (1:06.86)
• 1983 – 100m Back – Christine Jacob (1:10.34)
• 1983 – 200m Back – Christine Jacob (2:29.00) GR
• 2021 – 200m Back – Chloe Isleta (2:18.60)
• 2023 – 100m Back – Teia Salvino (1:01.64) GR
• 2023 – 200m Back – Xiandi Chua (2:13.29) GR

Of the 19 women’s swimming events in SEA Games, we have won gold in only four events : 50m & 100m Free, and 100m & 200m Back.

No Filipina swimmer has ever won a SEA Games gold medal in the following events: 200m Free, 400m Free, 800m Free, 50m Back, 50m Breast, 100m Breast, 200m Breast, 50m Fly, 100m Fly, 200m Fly, 200m IM, 400m IM, and all three women’s relay events.

Will this change in this year’s SEA Games in Bangkok? We’ll find out starting tomorrow as the swimming competition officially begins!

Ariba Women's team! 🇵🇭
