Ever tried the Human Centipede Drill on the court? 🏀

This team challenge pushes more than just speed—it tests communication, trust, and unity.

Learner/Athletes line up with basketballs placed between each teammate, forming one connected unit.

The goal?

Move as one cohesive group from baseline to baseline—and back—without dropping the ball. Sounds simple… until it isn’t. The moment a ball drops, it’s back to the starting line.

The twist: the first team to finish earns bragging rights and skips line sprints. Everyone else? Time to run.

What makes this drill powerful isn’t just the physical demand—it’s the mental and team dynamic:

• Constant communication
• Synced movement
• Shared accountability
• One goal, one effort

It’s a reminder that success doesn’t come from individual effort alone—it comes from moving together, thinking together, and finishing together.

***Parenting In the Digital Age: Introducing your school aged-children to Sports***

In today’s fast-paced, screen-driven world, many parents are understandably focused on academics and safety—but there’s an urgent need to recognize the powerful role sports can play in a child’s life.

Sports are not just about staying active or “burning energy.” They are living, breathing classrooms where children learn discipline, teamwork, resilience, and accountability. On the court or field, they experience both failure and success—and more importantly, how to respond to each. These lessons stay with them far beyond childhood.

When pre to elementary school age kids engage in sports early, they develop confidence, learn to manage pressure, and build healthy habits that can last a lifetime. They also form meaningful friendships and gain a sense of belonging—something every child needs. This is where the social and emotional aspects of child development kicks in.

Dads, Moms, guardians don’t have to raise elite learner/athletes. But they do have an opportunity to raise strong, healthy, and holistically well-rounded individuals. Encouraging kids to play, compete, and grow through sports may be one of the most valuable investments they can make in their child’s future.

Because in the end, it’s not just about the game—it’s being about the responsible and accountable young adults they could actually become in the future .

To experience what we're pointing out, please have them join our FREE 90-minute SESSION at Tahanan Village Covered Court, in BF Homes Paranaque City, 8AM sharp, on May 16, 2026. It’s funny how something so simple can be so profound.

A basic basketball passing drill—something most players go through without a second thought—holds more depth than it’s given credit for. From the right form, the snap of the wrists, the timing, to the way you receive the ball… every detail matters. Even catching the spheroid cleanly is a skill in itself.

These are the fundamentals that don’t make highlight reels, but they shape the kind of player you become.
Passing isn’t just about moving the ball—it’s about awareness, precision, trust, and rhythm. When you start paying attention to the little things, the game slows down in the best way.
You see more, react better, and connect plays that others miss.

Mastering what’s often overlooked is what separates a one-trick pony player from a truly multidimensional athlete. Never underestimate the basics. That’s where greatness quietly begins.

Reach one, teach one, each one, man.

In one of the games we watched during UAAP Season 86 we watched, CJL quickly met up with Governor Jonvic Remulla of Cavite at the MOA, where he briefed the biggest UP Fighting Maroon supporter about the province-wide implementation of CJL's Basketball 101 grassroots program. This involves training the coaches, Physical Education teachers, and volunteer servant leaders to become technically sound teachers of the game that will guide the next generation student/athletes who want to learn the game from an academic perspective.

The same is being prepared in other parts of the country, where CJL's Basketball 101, the 280-page, full-color reference book will be used as the primary material in implementing the coaches' mentoring program.

CJL is living a full basketball life and has gone full-circle, twice over!

My main man Mark Rey Montejo of the Manila Bulletin, wrote about our Spetember visit at the PSA Forum, and it went a l'il something;

"Former national team and collegiate coach Joe Lipa launched his book “Basketball 101” which gives aspiring tacticians the fundamentals in handling different situations and players.

Lipa, a two-time SEA Games champion coach in 1985 and 1995, hopes that his book can inspire others to make their own career path.

"Hopefully, this can be one of my legacies in Philippine basketball. All of my experience, knowledge, and wisdom that I gained through 50 years of coaching," Lipa said in the PSA Forum on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at the Rizal Memorial Complex in Manila.

"All the necessary processes of basketball coaching, from training to coaching philosophy,” he added.

Lipa also emphasized the relevance of athletes' sources of nutritions and physical conditioning that can be huge factors to become more successful. Working with co-author Peter Regalado Lopez, Lipa collaborated with notable coaches like Tim Cone, Yeng Guiao, Alfrancis Chua, Ryan Gregorio and Jamike Jarin to bring in ideas that will fit to the present basketball terms.

The 79-year-old tactician guided the Philippine men’s basketball team to its first-ever bronze medal finish in the 1986 Asian Games in Seoul, South Korea."

Sharing this article on the occassion of the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) honoring Coach Joe Lipa as one of three recipients of it's Lifetime Achievement Award, alongside coaches Turo Valenzona and Dante Silverio. The iconic triumvirate will be feted on January 27, 2024.

Maraming salamat po sa pamunuan ng Philippine Sportswriters' Association, mabuhay po kayong lahat! And to Mssrs Lipa, Silverio, and Valenzona, congratulations for a well-deserved citation. Thank y'all for your collective bodies of work to make the game where it standa right now. ♥️♥️♥️

A lot has been said in these parts about the recent videos that went viral which involved coaches in a community based pro league. A mentor punched his ward in the midsection in between a timeout due to an error. And recently, in the juniors's division, another coach saw him grabbing on the jersey collar of his player ala Bobby Knight, in full view of both the live and streaming audiences. Much to the costernation of netizens, a compelling debate rages on, between purists and casual observers about the unwritten code of coaching ethics that Filipinos adhere to.

You see, there are clinics and camps for basketball players which are dime a dozen. Thank God for coaching seminars, but they come too far in between, now, there's a material written and published for teachers of the game to refer to, in handling and avoiding such situations in a proactive and positive manner.

Coach Joe Lipa's Basketball 101, is the most comprehensive reference available for Filipino coaches, from the newbie to the tenured. A book writtent in the context of the Filipino temperament, psyche, and bearing. A must own copy for those who wish to improve their craft!

Shoot Ao1 Skills Academy or this page a PM, for your copy!

Immensely blessed to have co-authored and published Coach Joe Lipa's Basketball 101 Coaches Edition, which is the first of three (3) versions of the most comprehensive reference book in teaching the game academically to date.

We conceptualized and came up The Grassroots Edition, that has addtional five (5) chapters to reinforce the orientation of baranggay volunteers at the LGU level, into becoming a competent coach who will impart their knowledge in their respective communities.

While the DepEd Edtion is projected to be the reference material for Physical Education instructors or teachers across the Public School System in the K-12 curriculum. The proposed syllabus in teaching the game academically, shall have seven(7) additional chapters of the Coaches' Edition. The same full-color material in the same paper stock will be made available in the coming months.

Coach Joe Lipa's Basketball 101 WILL be a learning system that is composed of the reference book, a YouTube channel, a proposed eBook, and coaching workshop on how to use and teach the game to Filipinos everywhere.

Get a copy now! Shoot me a PM peeps!

Much love Coach Mike for the mention and for sending me this clip, which illustrates the encompassing influence of the revered FilOil Pre-Season commish, Coach Joe Lipa, among the present crop of elite tacticians in the country. In the epic battle against Adamson and Ateneo in Sunday's night cap, he spoke to Coaches Nash Racela and Tab Baldwin during the game and emphasized that his referees are broefed to call it tight, but fair, and square.

And we were all treated to a buzzer beating 3-ball by the Falcons to squeak oast the hardluck Eagles by a solitary point in a come from behind W.
