Lil’ Rollers 🐢 classes look chaotic and playful, but we’re being v deliberate underneath. 😉
The most important thing we teach in Lil’ Rollers isn’t technique but the joy of moving.
We don’t need mini athletes; we need kids who like moving. 🤸♂️
So yes, we teach jiu-jitsu 🥋 and offer glimpses of where these movements will eventually lead. But we’re in no hurry to turn every shrimp into a “hip escape,” every game into a drill, or every class into serious technical training. 😨
For now, much of the learning is disguised as play.
They crawl like animals, wrestle over tails, escape, chase, balance, fall down and get back up. They solve little physical problems, make mistakes, laugh, try something ridiculous, and sometimes discover that it actually works. 🤩🥳
There will be plenty of time for drilling, repetition, terminology and all the less glamorous work that comes with getting good at something. 🤓
Right now, we want 3-6yo children to hold on to their sense of wonder: to stay curious about what their bodies can do, enjoy figuring things out, and become comfortable falling, failing and trying again. 💪🏻
Most of all, we want them to associate jiu-jitsu with something they love doing. Before we ask them to love the sport, we let them love movement first. 🤸🏻♀️🥋
