Kinsa sya? Sino sya? Who is he?

A lot of people knew him, spanning generations from the 1970s to the present. He was one of the greatest coaches I have ever known. A man of strict discipline, yet with a soft and kind heart for everyone who held a badminton racket.

He was incredibly generous—not only in giving, but in uplifting others. He devoted himself in developing grassroots here in the country. For him, badminton was never just for the privileged.

He carried this and proudly believed that badminton is for all, regardless of status.

Though he has passed, his kindness will echo forever.

From his badminton court, Valencia Badminton Center, countless student-athletes found more than just a place to train. They found shelter, support, care, food, electricity, water, equipment, bed, washing machine and even free use of badminton court for training under Him and selective coaches he choose.

He gave without expecting anything in return.

The only way to repay him is to love the sport, to study well, to finish our education, to train hard, and to keep on dreaming.

Can you imagine?

All of my badminton achievements started with Him and coach AJ Mailon also to my senior Van Nazareno and Misael Calvero.

Without Him, none of this would have been possible. He is truly one of the greatest coaches in Philippine badminton history. A man who didn’t just train players, but touched the lives and changed them forever.

Salamat Coach!

The Unsolicited Advice

People have different approaches to playing the game. It is something personal or a reflection what’s within them and how they want to experience it.

Crossing their boundaries may lead to disagreements and conflict. Let them have their own thought process, unless they show a willingness to be coached.

They don’t necessarily need a coach or a teacher; they need someone who will be their partner or teammate—even when they sometimes get on your nerves.
Being overly authoritarian during queuing can make them lose interest in the game.

For those who like to give instructions: having good intentions and wanting to help is a good thing. However, asking politely first allows you to see whether they are willing to receive feedback or advice, which helps avoid unnecessary conflict.

Queuing Groups (Social/Recreational Play): These represent the recreational side of badminton. The focus is on self-improvement through social connection and bonding or simply taking time to enjoy the game. There is less pressure to win, as the priority is maintaining a friendly atmosphere and a positive environment.

Competitive/Tournament Play: This environment is characterized by high-intensity situations driven by reward systems and the desire to test one's skill development. While pride and ego come into play, they are balanced by mutual respect. There is a much higher demand to reach peak performance and secure a win.

The Mindset Shift: Being able to shift your mindset between these two distinct environments/scenarios is a vital skill for any player, whether they are a professional athlete or a club player.

Informative:
Mental skills are essential in badminton, and it is my hope that every player can acquire them. Whether you are a professional, intermediate, or advanced player—or even if you consider yourself all-knowing in the sport—without shifting your mindset and differentiating which approach to use in different scenarios, you are still lacking.

Removing of monthly allowances to Student-Athletes in the universities in the country.

Monthly allowances are allocated to the Student-Athletes because they are responsible to train and represent the university in the local or international tournaments.

Making excuses because of the academics will depend on the coaches if they are going to remove it because it’s a PRIVILEGE for TRAINING ALLOWANCE for Student-Athletes. It’s not ACADEMIC ALLOWANCE.

Swerte student-athletes if the coaches are giving space for those excuses specially academics.

Illness or other excuses must be valid and properly justified to the coaches to avoid miscommunication and misjudgment regarding removal of this privilege. Still, it’s a big help to the Student-Athlete.

First Hindi basahen yung pag tatapos nang pag aaral to the success of those young Student-Athletes and at the same time national Athletes.

If badminton here in the country will not become a career path. Better to know the priorities parents, coaches and all the people who surround those players.

Hopefully those people in charge in the Philippine Badminton Community from all branches, from the schools, from the badminton clubs, Phil. Badminton Association, Training Camps or any individual will help guide those dreams to make it happen sa international stage.

If not better to lock those players in academics to provide and prepare them in the long run.

I don’t think so na meron magulang na gustong Hindi makatapos nang pag aaral mga Anak nila, a big risk to the young athletes, miss opportunities and lost talents is happening.

Congrats to all of the people who organize the inter COLGATE 2025! One of the best tournament for collegiate level!

Those coaches can determine who are the players na kaya abroad dahil sila yung nakaka kita nang level sa world stage. They are capable to gage who are the talented Filipino badminton athletes that can make it, or wave the flag for the country.

Anyway. Kanya kanyang trip yan, but hopefully those coaches will become our guarantor of the talents sa collegiate level.

Hopefully those coaches will become the assessors, to review, to run-through, to gage the Talented players.

Naka OVER VIEW IN A WAY THEY HAVE OUR RESPECT, OUR TRUST etc.

How are they going to get it if they are losing to local coaches. It’s not about who is the best coach but drawing the line and the responsibility towards the young badminton athletes sa collegiate level.

Sandbagging will give you nothing, it’s a false achievement, you are taking advantage of your opponents level because of material thing such as medals, cash prices, trophies or your self serving satisfaction, 🏆 but it’s empty because you manipulate the tournament, you degrade yourself and unfair to other people who is in the right Level and want to compete fairly.

Mas madami pa kayo matutunan in losing then learn, bounce back, be resilient and time will come if you will win it’s not a fantasy. It’s pure Joyfulness and self fulfilling.

Sandbagging or sandbaggers are degrading themselves and being mean to other player because of self centered interest.

The effect of bribery in the badminton community.

*they are still young to manage the power of control over the money. (Wise spending kung tawagin)
*BRIBERY distract the players to what matters the most in the long run,

- [ ] Education
- [ ] Commitment and dedication sa Training
- [ ] Holistic development
- [ ] Character
- [ ] Values
- [ ] Morals

Those who bribe the players please do reconsider the impact to young athletes, control your self made interest and grow up in terms of responsibilities to guide the young athletes to reach their full potential in academics and playing career.

Better to put that money in your own grassroots and build your own, be patient and create a culture where love, commitment, compassion, care, respect, camaraderie etc. to a better relationship, bond and connection towards the players and the parents.

You are putting those players in the wrong direction to the point they will neglect the most important things to developed themselves.

SUGAL
PASOK SA PEGA*
BARKADA
INOM AT kung ano anong bisyo,

Worst dyan PINANG DRUDRUGS PA NANG MGA PLAYERS.

Stop that MINDSET NA desisyon naman nang bata yan on how they will spend the money, BE RESPONSIBLE ENOUGH TO GUIDE THOSE PLAYERS.
