THANK YOU, TYANG ABY! 👏💚
DECORATED middle blocker Aby Maraño has called it a career.
Maraño, a product of the vaunted La Salle women’s volleyball program under coach Ramil de Jesus, made the decision to retire on her social media accounts on Wednesday night after her contract with Nxled had already expired.
“Actually, hindi naman naging overnight decision sa akin ang pag-retire. Matagal ko na ring inihahanda ang sarili ko na darating talaga yung time na kailangan kong mag-transition from playing professionally to another chapter of my life,” said the 33-year-old Maraño.
“After 22 years of playing volleyball, masasabi kong kaya ko pa naman physically and competitively. Wala naman akong major injury, and I know that I can still compete,” she added.
Maraño also suited up for now-defunct PVL clubs F2 Logistics, which she stayed with the longest outside of her collegiate career, and Chery Tiggo. She came to the Chameleons after the Crossovers disbanded last year.
“I believe that some things have to end in order for something great to start. So yes, there was sadness, but there was also peace. I think that’s when I knew it was the right decision,” said the two-time UAAP MVP.
