Zyra Bon-as, an Igorot kickboxer from Mountain Province, delivered a proud moment for the Philippines after clinching the gold medal in the 48kg Low Kick category at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games Kickboxing event.

Bon-as secured the top podium finish following a toe-to-toe battle against her seasoned opponent from Thailand, one of the region’s traditional powerhouses in kickboxing. The closely contested final kept spectators on edge, with both fighters trading solid combinations and powerful low kicks throughout the match. In the end, Bon-as prevailed via a narrow 2–1 decision, highlighting the intensity and balance of the bout.

Displaying composure, grit, and discipline, the Mountain Province native matched her Thai foe round for round, earning the judges’ nod through consistent pressure and well-timed strikes. Her victory underscored not only her technical growth but also her mental toughness on the international stage.

Bon-as’ gold medal adds to the Philippines’ medal haul and shines a spotlight on the rising strength of Igorot athletes in combat sports.
