JM Sorio scored 36pts, dished out 7 assists and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the team to a hard fought 88-76 win! Mell Gamboa had 22 points and 11 rebounds to help Sorio while Eisaiah Guerrero and Jacob Capulso each added 10 points as team student of the game opened the Velvet D- League season 4 14u with a 2-0 record.

student of the game is set to battle once more with the giant 14u and 16u teams of Velvet D- League!! team will have its first game scheduled on Nov 30 see you all at the AFP Wellness Center Camp Aguinaldo!!

Most players are just fans of the game and watch for entertainment value.

But great players are the ones looking for one percenters to grow their basketball IQ and gain an advantage over other players and who want to learn how to ‘think the game’…

They become a STUDENT of the game...

Here are a few ways to do it:

1. Watch how teams create advantages.
More specifically, study how teams take advantage of ball screens.
-Watch how they get the ball into the hands of their best players in a position of power (free throw line, pinch post, etc.)
-And finally, watch how they drive the ball to the paint.


2. Once they’ve created the advantage, watch how they maintain the advantage.
-Notice how the ball never “sticks”.
Catch shoot, catch drive, catch pass.
The ball is always moving.


3. Watch how the pros manage space.
-Meaning, when the ball is in their hands, they ATTACK space.
-When it isn’t?
They CHASE space.


And on defense, they take space away. Why?
Because, on offense, staying equal distance away from the ball and your defender is key.
