Some people get in the water to swimโฆ
Others get in the water to find themselves again. ๐
Underwater, the entire world changes.
The noise disappears.
Everything becomes distant.
And whatever was weighing on you seconds agoโฆ stays above the surface.
No messages.
No one asking anything from you.
No expectations.
Just your heartbeat, your breath, and the sound of water moving around you.
And somewhere in that small space between one breath and the nextโฆ
You realize something:
Youโre not escaping the world.
Youโve simply found a place where the world canโt follow you.
Maybe thatโs why some people donโt just love swimming.
They need it.
They need that moment when their head slips beneath the surface and everything else disappears.
They need the kind of exhaustion that finally makes the mind go quiet.
They need that last meter when the body is begging to stopโฆ but they keep going because they donโt want the moment to end.
Swimmers know this feeling.
You climb out of the pool physically exhaustedโฆ
yet somehow, you feel lighter than when you went in.
And thatโs the part thatโs almost impossible to explain to someone who has never truly loved the water.
We donโt always come back because we want to swim faster.
Sometimesโฆ
we come back because thereโs a version of ourselves we can only find underwater. ๐ค๐
If you understood that last sentence without needing an explanationโฆ
youโre one of us. ๐โโ๏ธ

Why Can Water Stay Trapped in Your Ear After Swimming?
Many people experience the sensation of water getting โstuckโ in their ear after swimming. This usually happens because water becomes trapped in the external ear canal, the narrow passage leading to the eardrum. Contrary to popular belief, the water does not normally pass beyond the eardrum.
๐ฉบ The Science Behind It
The external ear canal has a curved shape and a natural layer of earwax. Combined with the surface tension of water, these features can cause small amounts of water to remain inside the canal instead of draining out immediately. This trapped water may create a feeling of fullness, muffled hearing, or the sensation of water moving inside the ear.
โ ๏ธ Why It Matters
If moisture remains trapped for an extended period, it creates a warm, damp environment where bacteria or fungi can grow. This increases the risk of swimmerโs ear (otitis externa), an infection of the outer ear canal that can cause pain, redness, swelling, itching, and ear discharge.
๐ Common Symptoms
* Muffled or reduced hearing
* A feeling of pressure or fullness
* Water moving or sloshing inside the ear
* Mild discomfort or irritation
In most cases, the trapped water drains naturally within a few minutes or hours.
โ
How to Help Remove Trapped Water
* Tilt your head to each side to encourage drainage.
* Gently pull your outer ear upward and backward to straighten the ear canal.
* Dry the outside of your ear with a clean, soft towel.
* If recommended by a healthcare professional, use over-the-counter ear-drying drops after swimming.
โ What to Avoid
Do not insert cotton swabs or other objects into your ear. These can push debris or earwax deeper into the ear canal, irritate the skin, and increase the risk of infection.
๐จ When to Seek Medical Advice
Consult a healthcare professional if you experience:
* Severe or persistent ear pain
* Redness or swelling
* Ear discharge
* Fever
* Hearing loss that does not improve
* Symptoms lasting more than 24โ48 hours
Remember: Swimming is an excellent form of exercise, and taking proper care of your ears helps keep every swim safe and comfortable.
